Setting Expiry Dates on Assets and Albums

How to set usage-rights expiry dates on assets and albums, and what happens when licensed content expires.

Written by Libby

Summary
Cuttable can track a usage-rights expiry date on individual assets and on whole albums, so licensed content automatically stops being used in new ads once its license has run out.

What Asset Expiry does

Asset Expiry lets you set a usage-rights expiry date on an image or video asset, or on every asset in an album at once. An asset stays usable through the date you choose and becomes unavailable for new ads starting the day after. This helps you avoid using licensed or influencer content past the end of its usage rights.

Setting an expiry date on a single asset

  1. Open the asset in its album

  2. Set an expiry date in the top right hand corner. The date applies to that asset only.

Setting expiry dates for a whole album

To set the same expiry date across every asset in an album at once:

  1. Open Albums

  2. Select the 3 dots next to the name of the album

  3. Select Expiry dates

⭐ Important: Setting a date this way is a one-time bulk update to the assets already in the album at that moment, not a setting that applies to the album going forward. Any asset you add to the album afterward does not inherit the date, and moving an asset to a different album does not change its date either.

How expiring assets are shown

Once Asset Expiry is turned on, every asset grid shows a badge counting down to expiry, for example "3 days left," and switches to an "Expired" badge once the date has passed. Expired assets grey out and cannot be selected in the asset picker.

How expiry affects ad generation

Ad generation skips expired assets, so they cannot be selected for a new ad. Ads that were already generated using an asset before it expired are not affected: they will remain in your ads as normal. Expiry only blocks any new ad briefs selecting the asset, it does not remove the asset from ads you have already made.
