The Muse headset is a sensitive device and should be treated with care.

Cleaning your headset from time to time can help prolong the headset’s lifespan.

If you are a regular user, cleaning your Muse headband once in a while can be helpful. To do so, you can use a small amount of alcohol on a cotton swab, and gently wipe down the forehead band sensors, and silicone earpieces. It is important not to use too much, but rather just dab the cotton swab and lightly wipe down the entire surface of your Muse headset. You can also wipe the rest of your headset down with a damp cloth.

Please note, cleaning your headband too harshly or too often may cause the silver on the headset to tarnish slightly, which could impact the signal quality. Should this occur, we recommend using silver polish on the sensors.

Here's a list of other useful tips for caring for your Muse headset:

  • Do not get the Muse headset wet, with water or any other liquids.

  • Your headset should not be exposed to extremely high or low temperatures.

  • Prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause discoloration of some parts so try to keep your Muse out of the sunlight when not in use.

  • Do not open, disassemble, or attempt repair of your Muse.

  • Avoid dropping Muse as this may cause hardware damage.

  • Avoid extreme bending of the headset.

Caring for your External Electrode:

The electrode should be cleaned thoroughly between sessions, to ensure that no gel has dried up in the electrode, which can be a source of signal disruption.

To clean the electrode:

  • Dip the gold-cup of the electrode in lukewarm water, until the paste peels off.

  • Go over the gold-cup with a cotton swab to remove any excess paste, and to ensure no gel remains in the gold-cup of the electrode.
