Bola Quick Start Guide: Level 1

Written by Matthew Ferguson

Pocket depths (PD)

  • When you start a new chart, Bola starts on pocket depths.

  • Continuous charting: say your measurements in groups of three, for example “2 1 2”, “2 1 3”, “3 2 3”.

  • To go back to pocket depths, say “Start pocket depths”.

  • Tip: chart 3 teeth at a time with minimal pause for better accuracy.

Gingival margins (GM) / recession

  • To start, say “Start GM”, “Start gingival margins” or “Start recession”.

  • Continuous charting: say your measurements in groups of three, for example “1 1 1”, “0 0 1”, “1 0 0”.

  • Spot charting recession: leave the cursor on the pocket depth row and use the keyword “with”. To mark one site: “Recession with 2 on tooth number 2”. To mark all three sites: “Recession with 2 1 2 on tooth number 2”.

Bleeding

  • No start command is needed.

  • Structure: “Bleeding on [tooth #] [surface]”.

  • Examples: “Bleeding on tooth number 2 mesial distal”, “Bleeding on tooth number 6 mesial”, “Bleeding on tooth number 8 all”.

  • Bleeding is marked on the side of the tooth (facial/buccal or lingual) where the cursor is. To mark the other side, add that side at the end of the command, for example “Bleeding on tooth number 4 all lingual” or “Bleeding on tooth number 5 mesial distal facial”.

Navigation

  • Jump to a tooth: “Jump to 14”. Say the number on its own, without the word “tooth”.

  • Undo the last action: “Undo”

  • Move forward: “Next” or “Skip” (not available on Fuse)

  • Move back: “Back” (not available on Fuse)

  • Turn off the microphone: “Bola stop”
