What are the milestones for getting started with Bola AI?
Milestone 1 - Order a recommended microphone - Bola Voice Recommended Microphones
Milestone 2 - Make sure mics are on site, install Bola, test the mic in Dentrix by saying the measurements into the Perio chart
Select new chart, click on the distal buccal surface of the first tooth to begin charting
Tip: Bola will recognize any missing teeth that is marked by seeing the letter 'M"
Once your mic is red, you're able to begin charting

If the microphone icon is blue, Voice Perio is in standby mode and is not listening to your voice commands.
If the microphone icon is red, Voice Perio is actively listening to your voice commands.
How do I turn the microphone on/off?
Simply say Bola Stop or click the microphone
Select the microphone icon to toggle on/off
What are some microphone best practices?
Turn off the Bola microphone as soon as you finish charting.
Don’t turn the microphone on until you are ready to start your perio chart.
If the microphone is left on too long, it may pick up speech that triggers commands and changes your chart.
What if there is background noise in my office?
Ask colleagues to keep noise down during the few minutes you chart with Bola.
Try placing the mic in a different spot on your clothing.
Be aware of noise from machines, people, TV, radio and similar sources.
Make sure you are using one of our recommended mics.
What is the Quick-View Box?
The quick view box on Bola Voice Assistant gives users insight to usability fixes and command errors. Messages that hover over the Bola microphone are intended to assist users in quickly fixing errors or provide general guidance.
Does Bola understand accents?
Yes, Bola understands accents and different speech styles (understands foreign and domestic speech styles). Bola is also an AI tool, so it learns as it goes.
Does Bola help me chart faster?
Unassisted charting: yes, Bola can cut your charting time in half. In a case study with a large DSO, Bola saved 3 to 5 minutes per perio chart.
Assisted charting: the time saved per perio exam is similar, and it also frees up the assistant’s time.
What can Bola chart?
Bola can chart all of the conditions for a complete perio chart. To learn more about other commands, open the Bola Voice Command Reference. You can print it from your browser or save it as a PDF.
In the Bola desktop app, the same reference opens when you click the blue book icon at the bottom of the Bola Voice Assistant home screen, just below the app version number. The viewer has print and download buttons.

Are there recommended system requirements?
1. Internet speed: at least 10 Mbps
2. Computer memory: at least 8 GB of RAM, 16 GB recommended
3. Memory usage while charting: below 70% preferred, 80% maximum

Where do I find the download?
Your office will receive a Welcome Email containing a link to your Bola Voice Assistant app. A Bola representative will assist your users with installing the Bola app onto your operatories.
What is an License Key and where can I locate it?
An License Key is the passcode that you use to activate Bola AI software. We recommend saving the office key to your computer so you can have it to refer back to if you ever need to. Each office is assigned an license key. If at any time you can’t locate your license key in the welcome email from Henry Schein, they can provide you with your unique office key via email. You can also reach out to your assigned Customer Success Manager with Bola.
Can I use any mic with Bola?
No. For best results and to avoid technical issues, we recommend three microphones that work well in all dental settings.
How many computers can one office key work on?
A license key can be used on the allotted amount of operatories agreed upon in your office's service agreement. Generally about six (6)
How do custom settings in Dentrix affect voice perio?
Using custom preferences in Dentrix while using Bola can create inaccuracies when charting. It is paramount to choose the Bola Migration Path script in Dentrix.
While charting, say "Skip" or "Next" to move the cursor forward one tooth. Or before you start, mark the teeth to skip in the Bola app: press "Select Teeth to Skip" (there is a "Mark Wisdom Teeth Missing" checkbox for 1, 16, 17, 32), or say "Mark missing, 1, 16, 17, 32".
Note: "Skip" and "Next" are available on Dentrix Desktop. They are not supported on Fuse.
