ISSUE: "Chart recession", "Chart GM", or "Chart gingival margin" is not triggering the recession/GM field

What this issue may look like:

  1. Saying "chart recession", "chart GM", or "chart gingival margin" does not switch Bola into the recession / gingival margin field

  2. Bola stays in the previous measurement field (for example, pocket depths) after the command

  3. Numbers spoken after the command are recorded to the wrong field, the wrong tooth, or not at all

  4. The command is acknowledged but no visible change occurs in the perio chart

Troubleshooting steps

1. Use the command "start" as a workaround

This is a known issue we are actively tracking. Until a fix ships, use "start" in place of the recession/GM commands to begin recording gingival margin values.

  1. Navigate to the patient's perio exam as you normally would

  2. Position Bola on the tooth and site where you want to begin recording recession / gingival margin

  3. Say "start" instead of "chart recession," "chart GM," or "chart gingival margin"

  4. Bola will switch to the recession / gingival margin field and you can begin dictating values

Note:

"Start" works on all supported PMS platforms (Dentrix Ascend, Dentrix G7, and Eaglesoft) as a reliable entry point into the recession / GM field while the underlying commands are being fixed.

2. Resume your perio exam normally

Once the recession / GM field is active, all other voice commands (number dictation, "next," "back," "skip," "jump to," etc.) behave as expected. No other changes to your workflow are needed.

Warning:

Do not continue dictating numbers if Bola did not visibly switch fields after you said "start recession / GM / gingival margin." Values may be written to the wrong field. Confirm the active field in the chart before recording measurements.
