British or Irish Citizen

If your candidate has a valid and current British or Irish passport/passport card, they have the RTW in the UK.

If they have any of the following documents or an expired British or Irish passport/passport card, you will have to send in proof that you have seen this documentation in person.

  • a UK birth or adoption certificate

  • an Irish birth or adoption certificate

  • a certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British citizen

What proof of examining these documents is acceptable?

As part of your own internal processes and RTW checks, you should have a copy of the candidate's proof of RTW. All you have to do is send us a photo of that document and confirm via email that it has indeed been checked in person by you or your team.

If you do not do this, your candidate will not be able to pass the RTW check and subsequently can't go through the vetting process.
