⚠️ Important: Add each MID separately. Each MID needs its own details, billing descriptor, and integrations so that alerts are matched to the right account.
What you need before adding a MID
Gather the information below before you start adding a MID. You must provide either your Visa ARN or, if you don't have one, your BIN/CAID.
Information | What it is | Where to find it | Required? |
MID number | The Merchant ID your processor assigned to this account | Your processor's VAR sheet (the setup document your processor sends when your account is opened) | Recommended |
Billing descriptor | The business name that appears on your customers' card statements | Your payment processor or gateway | Yes |
Visa ARNs | 1–4 Visa Acquirer Reference Numbers. The merchant only has one if they've already processed transactions | Your payment processor | Optional |
BIN, CAID, and MCC | The acquiring bank's Bank Identification Number (BIN), the Card Acceptor ID (CAID), and the Merchant Category Code (MCC). | The BIN and MCC come with the merchant account approval. The CAID usually needs to be requested from the processor | Yes |
Gateway credentials | Your gateway username (user access) and private security key, for gateways such as NMI or Authorize.net | Your gateway account | Yes |
Processor credentials | Your processor username and private security key, for processors such as Kurv or Nexio | Your processor account | Yes |
Amex and Discover enhanced coverage details: Amex SE number, Discover SE number, corporation name, DBA name, and corporation address | The SE (Service Establishment) numbers that identify you with Amex and Discover, plus your legal business name, the "doing business as" name customers know you by, and your registered address | SE numbers: your payment processor. Business details: your business records | Only for enhanced coverage |
How to add a new MID
Adding a new MID in Disputifier takes six steps. Follow them in order.
Step 1: Open the Add a MID form
The tab where you add a MID has a different name depending on your store type. It's the same tab with the same options:
Shopify stores see Ratios
Non-Shopify stores see MIDs
To open the form for adding a new MID:
In your Disputifier dashboard, click the MIDs/Ratios tab in the left sidebar
Click Add a MID
Step 2: Enter your MID details
To enter the details that identify your new MID:
Enter an alias or number for the MID. Use the MID number from your processor's VAR sheet if you have it. If you don't, enter a name you'll recognize, such as your processor's name (for example, "Kurv").
Enter your billing descriptor.
Enter your Visa ARN. If you don't have a Visa ARN, enter your BIN/CAID instead.
Note: A Visa ARN or BIN/CAID is required to add a MID. Ask your payment processor if you don't have either.
Step 3: Choose your enrollment programs
At the bottom of the MID setup form, select the programs you want to enroll this MID in. Each program protects you in a different way:
Program | What it does | Want to know more? |
Ethoca | Sends you pre-dispute alerts, mainly for Mastercard transactions, so you can refund a customer before a complaint becomes a chargeback.
CDRN | Sends you pre-dispute alerts, mainly for Visa transactions, through Verifi's Cardholder Dispute Resolution Network.
RDR (Rapid Dispute Resolution) | Automatically resolves eligible Visa disputes based on rules you set, before they become chargebacks.
TC40 | Gives you Visa fraud report data so you can get VAMP reporting in Disputifier
Order Insight and Compelling Evidence | Order Insight shares order details with the card issuer when a customer asks about a charge, which can stop a dispute from being filed. Compelling Evidence uses your customer's past undisputed purchases to help block or overturn eligible Visa fraud disputes. |
Step 4: Enable enhanced coverage for Amex and Discover (optional)
Enabling enhanced coverage for Amex and Discover can increase your Amex and Discover alert coverage by roughly 20–30%. Skip this step if you don't want to enable it.
To enable enhanced coverage:
Select the enhanced coverage option on the MID setup form.
Fill in the additional fields that appear:
Amex SE number
Discover SE number
Corporation name
DBA name
Corporation address
Your payment processor can provide your SE numbers.
Step 5: Connect your gateway
Connecting your gateway is what allows us to process refunds for incoming alerts on this MID.
To connect your gateway:
Click Next to go to the gateway selection screen.
Select your gateway, for example NMI or Authorize.net.
Enter your gateway user access and private security key.
Click View Instructions for step-by-step guidance on completing the integration for your gateway.
(Optional) Send a user invite for this MID.
Click Next.
Step 6: Add your descriptor and connect your processor
To finish setting up your new MID:
Enter your billing descriptor.
Click Next to go to the processor integration step, for example Kurv or Nexio.
Follow the on-screen instructions for your processor.
Enter your processor username and private security key.
If you need help with the integration, send a user invite to hello@disputifier.com from your processor account.
Once you complete this step, your new MID is added to your Disputifier dashboard.
How long does each enrollment program take to go live?
After you add a new MID, each enrollment program goes live on its own timeline. The table below shows how long each program usually takes to activate.
Program | Time to go live |
Ethoca and CDRN | 2–3 business days |
TC40 | 10-15 days |
RDR | About 1–2 weeks |
Order Insights and Compelling Evidence | About 1–1.5 weeks (7–10 days) |
Troubleshooting
What does the "Private key is incorrect" error mean?
The "Private key is incorrect" error means the private security key you entered for your gateway or processor doesn't match. The most common cause is a typo or an outdated key. To fix it:
Copy the private security key again directly from your gateway or processor account and paste it into Disputifier.
If the error persists, confirm the correct key with your gateway or processor.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to add each MID separately?
Yes. Each MID must be added to your Disputifier dashboard individually, with its own details, billing descriptor, and integrations.
Why do I see a Ratios tab instead of a MIDs tab?
Shopify stores see the tab as Ratios, and non-Shopify stores see it as MIDs. It's the same tab with a different name, and you add a new MID from it the same way.
What should I name my MID if I don't have the MID number?
If you don't have the MID number from your processor's VAR sheet, give the MID a name you'll recognize, such as your processor's name. You can still complete the setup.
Is the Visa ARN required to add a MID?
Yes. You need to provide your Visa ARN when adding a MID. If you don't have a Visa ARN, provide your BIN/CAID instead. Your payment processor can give you either one.
What is a BIN/CAID?
A BIN/CAID is the combination of your acquiring bank's Bank Identification Number (BIN) and your Card Acceptor ID (CAID). You provide it instead of a Visa ARN if you don't have one. Your payment processor can give you your BIN/CAID.
What is enhanced coverage for Amex and Discover?
Enhanced coverage is an optional setting that can increase your Amex and Discover alert coverage by roughly 20–30%. To enable it, you need your Amex SE number, Discover SE number, corporation name, DBA name, and corporation address.
Why do I need to connect my gateway?
Connecting your gateway, such as NMI or Authorize.net, is what allows us to process refunds for incoming alerts on your MID.
When will my new MID start receiving alerts?
Ethoca and CDRN alerts usually go live within 2–3 business days. TC40 takes 10-15 days, and RDR, Order Insights, and Compelling Evidence take about 1–2 weeks.
