Collaborator access is a Shopify feature that lets you give a certified Shopify Partner, in this case, Disputifier, access to your Shopify admin directly from their Partner account. You control exactly which areas of your admin the collaborator can see, granting or restricting permissions as needed. This article is for Shopify merchants setting up Disputifier.
Important: We will not be able to enroll your alerts if we do not have collaborator access. Granting access is a required step to activate your Disputifier protection.
How collaborator access helps automate your chargebacks and process refunds
Disputifier requests collaborator access for two reasons: so we can gather the data needed to automate your chargebacks, and so we can process refunds on your behalf, both without you having to lift a finger. Our aim is a seamless solution that requires minimal to no action on your part.
While we use Shopify's API (application programming interface, the automated connection between Disputifier and your store) to gather most of the data we need, some information and actions are not available through the API. Collaborator access fills that gap, letting us access the metadata behind your disputes and issue refunds directly in your admin when it’s needed. We request the least amount of access necessary, so your chargebacks are automated and your refunds are handled without exposing any data we don't need.
What action is required from me?
Granting collaborator access to Disputifier takes two possible steps, depending on whether your store uses a collaborator access code.
Disputifier will send a collaborator access request within 24 business hours of your installation. To grant collaborator access, you'll need to approve that request:
Wait for the collaborator access request from Disputifier, which we send within 24 business hours of your installation.
Approve the request from either the Home page of your Shopify admin, or the Users and permissions page in Settings.
Once approved, Disputifier will appear as a collaborator on your store with the permissions listed below.
Important, if you have a collaborator access code enabled: Some stores require a collaborator access code before any Partner can request access. If your store has a collaborator access code enabled, we need you to send it to us as soon as possible, or we cannot submit our access request. Send the code to Disputifier through the live chat in the app, or email it to hello@disputifier.com.
What permissions does Disputifier request?
The table below shows the collaborator permissions Disputifier usually requests in your Shopify admin, and why each one is needed to automate your chargebacks and process refunds.
Permission | Why Disputifier needs it |
Home | Access to your Home page gives us the store overview. It's where we monitor incoming refund and order activity so refunds are handled promptly. |
Orders | Access to your orders lets us go beyond raw data to the metadata we need for customer communication, monitoring the order lifecycle, fraud detection, and updating dispute responses. It's also where refunds are issued, so this access lets us process refunds directly against the correct order. |
Customers | Access to your customer profiles lets us detect fraudulent activity, link fake accounts to potential fraudsters, and work with you to prevent chargebacks. It also lets us confirm a customer's history before we process a refund, so refunds go to legitimate buyers. |
Analytics | Access to your analytics lets us check your chargeback ratio and determine your standing with Shopify, so we can gauge your dispute risk. |
Apps (not mandatory) | Access to apps applies specifically to subscription apps, so we can factor subscription activity into your disputes. |
These are the essential permissions required to effectively manage your disputes, and nothing more.
