We will also introduce the key vocabulary to help you navigate the process of creating your first Course.

1. Basic elements: module, course, learning path

On Dokeos, you will primarily encounter three elements:

  • Module: The basic unit that contains learning content.

  • Course: A structured set of multiple Modules.

  • Learning Path: Composed of multiple Courses.

Module structure

Each Course consists of one or more Modules, and each Module contains steps that make up the content. There are different types of Modules, which you will discover in our other tutorials available in the help center.

Learning, Assessment, Survey, and Score Modules must be created before the Course creation. Afterward, the Trainer can add these Modules to the Course. Other types of Modules can be created directly within the Course.

Information:

Participants are enrolled only in Courses or Learning Paths, not in individual Modules. These Modules must be published and integrated into a Course to allow participant enrollment.

2. Training scenarios:

For each Course, there are two possible scenarios:

  1. Linear Mode: The Learner must start with the first Module and complete it to unlock the next one.

  2. Non-Linear Mode: The Learner can begin with any Module of their choice, with no restrictions.

3. Trainer's role:

As a Trainer, you will be able to view, modify, or archive only the Modules or Courses you have created, or those you have been invited to as a co-Trainer.

Post-Publication restrictions

After a Module or Course is published, certain restrictions apply regarding modifications. We encourage you to refer to our other tutorials available in the help center to learn about these restrictions.

4. Content management:

Archiving and deletion

It is important to note that permanently deleting content on Dokeos is not possible. You can only archive a Course or Module. Once archived, the content will no longer be visible on the main page, but you can find it using the "Archived" filter. You will also have the option to reactivate it if necessary.

Conclusion

This tutorial has introduced the fundamental elements for starting content creation on Dokeos LMS. By understanding the structure of Modules, Courses, and Learning Paths, as well as the different learning scenarios, you will be better prepared to design effective Courses.
