Scenario
You prefer to have customers pay with a deposit and pay the rest later with you
Deposits are supported on our Pro Plus plan. Watch Setup Video
Example
You offer an installation service and want to offer the option to pay the amount in full or pay down the amount partially.
How to Set Up Deposits
From the Dashboard, Edit the event you want to take deposits for
Under General > Payment Options > Pay to Book.
Enable Deposits toggle ON
4. Set your Deposit as Percent or Fixed Amount
5. Label your deposit, this will appear to the user on checkout
6. Now when you see your event in store, select a time and check out, you'll see the deposit reflected as a discount. A 10% deposit will reflect a large discount so that the customer only pays 10% of the cost.
7. Once a booking has been made, you'll see the first booking and deposit paid with a reference to the Shopify Order. There's an option to send the customer the invoice for the remainder. Click Send New Invoice
8. Now the customer receives an invoice for the remaining payment which they will pay directly on Shopify. In this example, 10% was paid via deposit so 90% is remaining.
9. Once the booking is fully paid, it will show as such in the app with a link to both the orders: the initial deposit and the remaining invoice.
FAQ
What if the customer paid separately with a different transaction?
There is a button to manually mark the booking as paid
I've set up my deposit, how do I communicate to the customer that a deposit will be paid when they view the product?
We suggest updating your Shopify product description to inform the customer that a deposit will be paid for this.
Once the customer selects a time, we let the customer know that a partial payment will be taken and the checkout has a discount code to reflect the deposit amount
I clicked Send New Invoice, but nothing sent - why?
You must verify your email with Shopify first! From your Shopify admin, click your store name in the topbar.
Click Manage account.
In the email verification banner, click Send verification email. If you don't see this banner, then your email is already verified.
From your email account, open the email and follow its instructions. (source)
Alternative: Using a variant
Create a new variant on the product you are offering for the Payment Type. The two options are Full Payment or Deposit. The Payment in Full would change the price to reflect the entire amount. The Deposit Only would change the price to reflect the partial amount. This can all be set on the Shopify product.
Ensure your product description and Event Notes are updated to say that the booking being created is for a deposit only.
Go to your event, and ensure both variants are selected. Click Update Variant Selection
Now when a customer selects deposit only and check out, they will only pay for the partial amount. When they arrive in person, they will pay the remainder to you in person.
Alternative: Make the appointment free and collect all the funds later. You can go to Edit Event > Payment Options > Skip Checkout. You can do this on any plan!
Note: The Easy Appointment Booking app does not reconcile the transactions for the deposit & the remainder of payment. This will be managed by your Shopify Order > Invoice function.
