Inventory Rules for Group Tickets in One-Time Events

Updated over a week ago

Group tickets can be a valuable feature for events, but it’s important to understand how they interact with your inventory so you can manage your event effectively.

Note: The settings described here apply only to One-Time Events. Recurring Events with Group Tickets work differently and have their own set of features.

How group tickets work with inventory

When you use group tickets, multiple attendees can register under a single ticket purchase. For example, if you sell a group ticket for 5 people, one purchase covers all 5 attendees.

As long as you have "Share inventory across ticket types" turned on and the group ticket is set to a specific "Group Size", the system will deduct that group size from your total available tickets.

For example, if you have 100 tickets available and sell a group ticket for 2 people, selling one group ticket will deduct 2 tickets from your total inventory — not just 1.

Important:

  • Make sure each of your ticket variants in Shopify’s backend has "Track inventory" enabled. Without this, the system can’t accurately deduct tickets.

  • If "Share inventory across ticket types" is turned off, the group ticket will only track against its own separate inventory count.

By setting this up correctly, you can ensure your ticket counts remain accurate, avoid overselling, and give both you and your attendees a smooth event experience.
