Project views: Board, List, Timeline, and Calendar

A comparison of Examply's four project views and when to use each one.

Every project in Examply can be viewed four ways. Switching views doesn't change your data — it changes how the same tasks are arranged, so pick whichever view fits the way you're working right now.

Switch between views

  1. Open the project.

  2. Click the view name in the top bar (Board, List, Timeline, or Calendar).

  3. Select a different view from the dropdown.

Your team's default view is set per project in Project settings → Default view, so the next person who opens it lands on the view you'd rather they see first.

Board

Board groups tasks into columns you define — typically stages like To do, In progress, and Done. Drag a task between columns to update its status. You can also group Board by assignee or priority instead of status.

List

List shows every task as a row with its assignee, due date, priority, labels, and estimate visible without opening the task. Sort any column by clicking its header, and use filters to narrow the list to one teammate or label.

Timeline

Timeline lays tasks out on a horizontal calendar based on their start and due dates. Drag either edge of a task bar to reschedule it, and draw a line between two tasks to set a dependency.

Note: Timeline is available on the Pro and Enterprise plans. On Free or Starter, the view switcher shows Timeline grayed out with an upgrade prompt.

Calendar

Calendar places each task on the day it's due. It's a fast way to spot a week that's overloaded before it happens — long lists of tasks due the same day are easy to miss in Board or List. Click any day to see every task due then, or drag a task from one day to another to reschedule it.

Filtering any view

Board, List, Timeline, and Calendar all share the same filter bar, so a filter you set — by assignee, label, or priority — stays applied when you switch views. This makes it easy to check, for example, whether Priya's tasks for the week look manageable in List, then switch to Calendar to see how they're spread across the days.

Tip: Press ⇧D while a task is selected to set its due date without opening the task, which is the fastest way to get a task to show up correctly in Calendar or Timeline.
