Updating one task at a time is fine for a handful of changes, but reprioritizing twenty tasks after a scope change calls for something faster. Examply's bulk-edit lets you select multiple tasks in List view and change them together.
This article covers selecting tasks, the fields you can bulk-edit, and a couple of guardrails worth knowing before you commit a change.
Select multiple tasks
Open a project's List view.
Click the checkbox next to a task, then
Shift-click another to select the range between them, or⌘-click to add individual tasks.A toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen showing how many tasks are selected.
What you can change in bulk
Field | Bulk action available |
Assignee | Reassign all selected tasks to one teammate |
Priority | Set the same priority level across all selected tasks |
Labels | Add or remove a label from all selected tasks |
Due date | Set a single date, or shift all due dates by a number of days |
Project | Move all selected tasks to a different project |
Status | Mark all selected tasks done or reopen them |
Click the toolbar action you need, make your change once, and Examply applies it to every selected task.
Note: Bulk-editing labels lets you add or remove one label per action. To change several labels across the same set of tasks, repeat the action once per label.
Moving tasks between projects
Bulk-moving tasks to a different project, for example shifting leftover work from "Website relaunch" into "Website relaunch: phase 2", keeps subtasks and dependencies intact. Any dependency on a task outside the selection stays linked, even across projects.
Undoing a bulk edit
Look for the confirmation toast in the bottom-left corner right after the change.
Click Undo within a few seconds to revert the entire bulk action at once.
Once the toast disappears, you'll need to reselect the same tasks and reverse the change field by field — there's no bulk undo after that point.
Bulk-editing across projects
You can select tasks from more than one project at once if your List view is set to show a whole team rather than a single project. This is useful when a team, such as "Design", needs to shift every task due this week to next week ahead of a public holiday, regardless of which project each task belongs to.
Tips
Sort List view by the field you're about to bulk-edit, for example priority, so the tasks you want to select are grouped together.
Bulk-editing respects permissions — Guests can't be added as bulk assignees to a project they haven't been invited to.
Review the selection count in the toolbar before confirming a destructive change, like moving tasks out of a project, since it's easy to select one row too many.
