What is Examply? A tour of the essentials

An overview of Examply's workspace, teams, projects, and tasks hierarchy, the four project views, time tracking, plans, and supported apps.

Examply is project management software built for product and client-services teams who need to plan work, track progress, and bill time - all in one place. This article walks through how Examply is organized, the views available for tracking work, and where time tracking and billing fit in, so you know your way around before you create your first project.

How Examply is organized

Every account starts with a workspace - the top-level container for your company. Inside a workspace, you create teams, such as Design or Engineering, and each team owns one or more projects, such as "Website relaunch". Projects break down into tasks, and tasks can have subtasks, dependencies, labels, priorities, and estimates.

  • Workspace - your company's account

  • Teams - groups of teammates, like Design or Engineering

  • Projects - bodies of work owned by a team

  • Tasks - the individual units of work, with subtasks, dependencies, labels, priorities, and estimates

This hierarchy means a teammate like Priya can belong to more than one team, and a project can be shared across teams when work overlaps - for example, when Design and Engineering both contribute to the same launch.

Ways to view your work

Every project supports four views, and switching between them keeps your filters and sort order intact:

  • Board - a kanban-style view grouped by status, good for daily standups

  • List - a dense, sortable table of tasks, good for triage

  • Timeline - a Gantt-style view for scheduling and dependencies

  • Calendar - tasks plotted against their due dates

Most teams start on Board and move to Timeline once a project has enough dependencies to need scheduling.

Time tracking and billing

If your team bills clients by the hour, start a timer on any task with a single click, or press T from anywhere. Time rolls up into weekly timesheets that a manager can review and approve, and you can set billable rates per teammate or per project so invoices reflect the right numbers.

Plans

Examply offers a Free plan for small teams (3 teammates, 2 projects), plus Starter, Pro, and Enterprise plans as your team grows and needs more projects, Timeline view, or admin controls. See Plans and pricing explained for the full comparison.

Where you can use Examply

Examply runs in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, with native apps for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android. If you need to connect Examply to other tools your team already uses, it also has a public REST API and webhooks - see Integrations overview for what's supported out of the box, including Slack, GitHub, Google Calendar, Figma, and Zapier.
