What is a Group in LMS+?

Written by Sveta Vyatkina

Groups is an LMS+ feature that lets managers segment learners based on roles, teams, departments, or specific learning objectives. Instead of assigning learning paths and courses to individuals one by one, you can organise learners into named groups and manage training, content delivery, and progress tracking at a group level.

Each group has its own page with tabs for members, assigned learning paths, courses, certificates, and reports — giving you a consolidated view of that group's activity.

Once a group is created, admins can:

Groups is an LMS+ exclusive feature and is not available on the standard (Free) LMS plan.

How to create groups?

  1. Navigate to Groups tab on Manage Teams page

  2. Click + Create New Group.

  3. Fill in the group details:

    • Group Name (required) — must be unique across your organisation and cannot be the same as your organisation name.

    • Group Description (optional) — up to 500 characters, supports rich text.

    • Group Thumbnail (optional) — PNG, SVG, or JPG, max 500 KB.

  1. Click Create & add members to proceed to the next step.

  2. Select team members from the list and click Next to finalise.

Tip: If you haven't added any team members to the LMS yet, you'll be prompted to invite them first before completing the group setup. You can also click Skip for Now to create the group without members and add them later.

Editing group details

Updating group information is simple and can be done at any time. To update a group's name, description, or thumbnail:

  1. Open the kebab menu on the group card and select Edit Group, OR open the group page and choose Edit Group Details from All Actions.

  1. Update the fields as needed.

  2. Click Save Changes.

There are no limits on updating group information, giving you the flexibility to modify details whenever necessary.

Manage group members

You can add members to a group either during the group creation process or at any time afterwards.

You can only add users who are already registered as learners in your LMS. If a user has not joined your LMS yet, you will need to invite them first.

Note: A learner can belong to multiple groups at the same time. Their group memberships are displayed in the Groups column throughout the LMS.

How do I add team members to a group?

You can add members to a group in two ways:

  • From the three-dot (kebab) menu on the group card

  • From the All Actions dropdown within the specific Group Page

If the group already has assigned Learning Paths, Courses, or Psychometric Tests, a confirmation window will appear. This notification lets you know that new members can automatically receive the existing group assignments.

You can choose one of the following options:

  • Add & Assign – Adds members to the group and assigns all existing group learning and tests to them

  • Add & Don’t Assign – Adds members to the group without assigning existing learning or tests

How do I remove team members from a group?

To remove members from a group:

  1. Open the relevant Group Page

  2. Select the Group Members tab at the top of the page

  3. Select the members you want to remove

  4. Click the Remove icon that appears above the table

A confirmation pop-up will appear before removal is completed.

The notification will inform you that any Learning Paths or Courses assigned through the group will no longer be available to the selected users if they have not started them yet.

You can then choose to confirm the removal or cancel the action.

Removing a learner from a group does not remove their LMS account or delete their learning history. It only removes their membership from that specific group and affects access to group-assigned learning.

How do I edit or delete a group?

You can delete a group using the options available in the kebab (three-dot) menu.

Note: If learners have not started the assigned learning, the group assignments will be removed and will no longer appear in reports for either managers or learners. If learners have already made progress, their activity will still be recorded in the “All Reports” section under Learning Paths or Course Assignment reports, and they will continue to have access to the learning through their own accounts.
