Settings - Trap Types

Define the types of traps and devices your techs install and service

Written by Rosie O'hara

Summary

A Trap Type is a reusable template for a kind of device your techs place — a glue board, a bait station, an insect light trap, and so on. Setting up trap types here lets you pre-fill the material, quantity, and map appearance for each one, so techs add devices quickly and consistently in the mobile app. It also keeps your device maps and reporting clean and uniform across accounts.

Key Points

  • Create a trap type for each kind of device your techs install

  • Pre-set the default material and quantity so techs don't re-enter them every time

  • Choose a color, shape, and label position so the device is easy to spot on a map

How to Get to Trap Type

  1. From the top of the Navigation menu, click on Settings (gear icon)

  2. Under Device & Trap Settings, click on Trap Type

How to Create a Trap Type

Click the New Trap Type button in the upper right, then fill in the fields:

  1. Trap Type Name — what techs see and select (e.g., Rodent Bait Station, Glue Board, Insect Light Trap).

  2. Default Material — the product loaded into this device by default, chosen from your material list (e.g., Contrac All Weather Blox). Techs can change it on-site if needed.

  3. Default Quantity — how many units come standard for this device? Pre-filling this saves the tech a step.

  4. Color — the color the device shows on the site map, so different trap types are easy to tell apart at a glance.

  5. Shape — the map icon shape: box, circle, or triangle.

  6. Device ID place — where the device's ID label sits relative to its icon on the map: inside or below.

Click the green Create Trap Type button to save.

Tips for Setting Up Trap Types

  • Use color and shape to create a visual system — for example, all rodent devices one color, all insect devices another. This makes maps readable at a glance.

  • Set realistic defaults. Accurate default material and quantity speed up techs and keep your material usage reporting honest.

  • Keep the list focused. Create the trap types you actually deploy rather than every possible variation.

Important Note: Anytime you change something in Settings, your techs must Reload Data in the mobile app to see the change.
