Android: fix app crashing in the background when the device connects

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Symptoms

  • Fieldy works in the foreground, but crashes or stops when backgrounded.

  • This can be more common on heavily customized Android versions.

Why this happens

Some Android phones do not handle device appearance BLE events reliably in the background. If Fieldy is configured to stop the service when the device disappears, the OS can trigger rapid service restarts (or lifecycle churn) right as the device reconnects - leading to instability or crashes.

Fix (recommended)

Keep the BLE service active all the time:

  1. Open Fieldy.

  2. Go to Fieldy Settings β†’ Bluetooth Connectivity.

  3. Turn OFF Stop service when device disappears.
