Flash Countdown Timer makes it easy to add urgency to your Shopify store without touching code. Whether you're running a flash sale, launching a new product, or promoting a limited-time offer, you can add a countdown timer directly in the Shopify theme editor and customize it to match your storefront.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through adding your first timer, setting it up, and styling it so it feels right at home on your store.
Open the Theme Editor
To get started, open the app and head into the Shopify theme editor.
Open Flash Countdown Timer in your Shopify admin.
From the setup flow, click “Open Theme Editor” from the Setup Guide.
If you prefer, you can also open it manually by going to Online Store > Themes > Customize.
Once you’re in the theme editor, open the page or template where you want the countdown timer to appear.
ℹ️ Note: You can place the timer on your homepage, product pages, collection pages, or custom landing pages, depending on where you want to highlight your promotion.
Add the Countdown Timer App Block
Now that you’re in the right place, it’s time to add the timer block.
As soon as the block is added, the timer will appear in the live preview. This makes it easy to see how it looks on the page while you set everything up.
Configure Your Timer
Once the block is in place, you can start building the countdown around your campaign.
Add a heading and a subtitle to introduce your promotion and provide shoppers with more context.
Choose the timer type that best fits what you’re running:
Enter the timing details based on the timer type you selected. This may include the end date, daily start and end time, recurring days, and timezone.
Update the labels for days, hours, minutes, and seconds if you want to adjust how they appear.
Add the message that should show once the countdown ends.
Choose the timer style that fits your store best. Flash Countdown Timer includes 8 built-in styles:
Dawn
Minimal
Cards
Compact
Colorful gradient
Flip clock
Elegant
Warm vintage
Choose the alignment that works best for your layout: left, center, or right.
If you want to make the timer more actionable, enable the CTA button and choose where it should link. You can link to a product, collection, or homepage.
If you’re using the Warm vintage style, you can also customize the watermark text shown behind the countdown.
When everything looks right, save your changes in the theme editor.
At this point, your timer is already functional; the next step is simply making it feel more on-brand.
Customize the Design
Once the timer is working the way you want, you can fine-tune the design so it blends naturally with the rest of your storefront.
Adjust the colors and font sizes for the header, subheader, countdown numbers, labels, and expired message.
Change the background behind the countdown units if you want a different look for the timer cards.
Update the main background color if needed.
If your theme supports it, you can also let the countdown automatically use the same background as the surrounding section when no custom background is selected.
These settings are especially useful when you want the timer to feel like part of your store design rather than a separate widget.
Add a Background Image
If you want a more visual look, you can also add a background image behind the timer.
This is a great option for homepage banners, promotional sections, and landing pages where you want the countdown to feel more integrated into the campaign. It’s also a nice way to create a more custom, polished look.
Open the background image setting in the app block.
Upload an image from your device or choose one from your Shopify files.
If you do not have an image ready yet, you can also use free images available through Shopify.
Adjust the overlay color and overlay opacity to keep the text clear and readable on top of the image.
A background image can make the timer feel much more tailored to your brand, especially when paired with the right style and text settings.
That’s it, your countdown timer is ready.
With just a few steps, you can add a timer to your Shopify store, choose the countdown behavior that fits your promotion, and customize the design to match your brand, all from the Shopify theme editor.
It’s a simple way to add urgency to your storefront while keeping everything flexible and easy to manage.
