Follow the steps below to update the firmware on your RoboCap.

What You'll Need

Before starting, make sure you have:

RoboCap
Power bank
USB-C data cable
Computer or laptop
Firmware update file provided by the FrodoBots team

Need the firmware file? Contact the team and provide your 16-character RoboCap ID. This allows us to provide the appropriate firmware file for your RoboCap.

⚠️ Important: Keep RoboCap connected to a power bank throughout the entire firmware update process. Do not turn off the RoboCap or disconnect its power while the update is in progress.

Step 1: Power On RoboCap

Connect RoboCap to your power bank.
Toggle the Power Switch to ON.
Wait approximately 5–10 seconds.

When the indicator light turns red, RoboCap is powered on and ready.

Step 2: Connect to the RoboCap Wi-Fi

On your computer or laptop:

Open your Wi-Fi settings.
Find the Wi-Fi network starting with Robocap_. For example: Robocap_2cf
Connect using the default password: 12345678

Note: Your computer must be connected to the RoboCap Wi-Fi to access the RoboCap Control Center.

Step 3: Open the RoboCap Control Center

Once your computer is connected to the RoboCap Wi-Fi:

Open a browser.
Enter 192.168.11.1 in the browser address bar.
The RoboCap Control Center will open.

If the page does not open, check that your computer is still connected to the RoboCap Wi-Fi.

Step 4: Connect to RoboCap and Check the Current Firmware Version

At the top of the RoboCap Control Center:

Enter 192.168.11.1 in the RoboCap IP Address field.
Click Connect MQTT.
Wait for Connection Status to change from Disconnected to Connected.
Under Device Properties, find Software and take note of the current software version.

For example:

Before update: 1.1.1

Keep a record of this version. You will check it again after the update to confirm that the new firmware was installed successfully.

Step 5: Connect RoboCap to Your Computer

Keep RoboCap powered on and connected to the power bank.

Connect a USB-C data cable to the RoboCap's USB-C port at the front end of the central axis of the visor.
Connect the other end of the cable to your computer.
Wait approximately 3–5 seconds.

RoboCap should appear as a removable drive on your computer.

Step 6: Copy the Firmware File to RoboCap

Open the RoboCap drive on your computer.
Locate the firmware update file provided by the FrodoBots team. This will usually be in your Downloads folder or wherever you saved the file.
Copy the firmware file.
Paste the file into the RoboCap drive.
Wait until the file has completely finished copying.

⚠️ Do not disconnect RoboCap while the file is still being copied.

Once the file transfer is complete, safely disconnect the USB data cable from your computer.

Keep RoboCap connected to the power bank.

Step 7: Wait for the Firmware Update to Complete

After disconnecting RoboCap from your computer, the firmware update will begin automatically.

Watch the RoboCap indicator light:

🟡 Flashing yellow – Firmware update is in progress
🟡 Solid yellow – Firmware update is complete

⚠️ Do not turn off RoboCap or disconnect the power bank while the yellow light is flashing. Interrupting the device while the firmware installs may cause the update to fail.

Wait until the yellow indicator light becomes solid before continuing.

Step 8: Confirm the Firmware Update

Once the update is complete, confirm that RoboCap is running the new firmware.

Check that the Robocap_ Wi-Fi network is available again.
Connect your computer to the RoboCap Wi-Fi.
Open your browser and go to 192.168.11.1.
Enter 192.168.11.1 in the RoboCap IP Address field.
Click Connect MQTT.
Wait until Connection Status shows Connected.
Under Device Properties, find Software.
Compare the software version with the version you recorded before the update.
