Genie is joining Doss to scale the mission we started together: better ops for entrepreneurial brands. As part of that transition, the Genie app will sunset on August 31, 2025. As an existing customer, you'll retain full access (free of charge) until then. We have stopped charging all customers on 10 July 2025, and will be doing a pro-rata refund for any customers on the annual plan with unused months.

We've put together this FAQ to help answer any questions that you may have. If there's anything else, get in touch with us via the in-app chat, or on aladdin@getgenie.io.

1. Overview

1.1 What is happening to Genie.io?
As part of our teaming up with Doss, the Genie app will unfortunately be shut down. All customer access ends on August 31, 2025 at 23:59 Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). After that, the Genie web app and Shopify integration will no longer be available. Export anything you need before that cutoff.

1.2 Why is Genie shutting down?
Genie has joined Doss.com, and the Genie product is being sunset as part of that transition. That’s why access is ending and why we’re pointing you toward Doss as a next step - especially if your business is scaling fast, and needs integrations with multiple sales channels like Amazon, several Shopify stores, your warehouse or your accounting platform (like Quicbooks).

1.3 Who is affected?
All Genie users are affected: Free, Monthly, and Annual. If any of your Shopify stores are connected to Genie, you’re impacted and will lose access on 31 August, 2025.

1.4 Am I still paying for Genie?

No, we've proactively moved all of our paid customers to a new plan called "Unlimited Free" before 10 July, 2025. If you're on an annual plan that was due to renew, you will not have been charged. If you're on a monthly plan, you will no longer be charged after 10 July, 2025.

1.4 Will my Shopify store stop working?
No. Removing Genie does not touch your core Shopify data (products, orders, customers). It only removes Genie’s access layer and UI. Still, export from Genie first if you want our enriched data.

1.5 Do I need to do anything now?
Yes. Export the data you care about,, and decide your next system (Doss or another vendor) before August 31. We recommend doing this as soon as possible.

2. Timeline and Access

2.1 When exactly do I lose access?
Your Genie access shuts off on August 31, 2025 at 23:59 PDT (that’s 06:59 UTC on September 1). Log in and download exports before the deadline. More information below on how you can do that.

2.2 Will features be reduced before the shutdown?
No, all existing features will remain functional. Genie will remain available through August 31, but our support response times may slow in August as we handle migrations with a reduced team.

2.3 Will my Shopify data keep syncing into Genie until the cutoff?
Yes. We’ll continue syncing Shopify data right up to the shutdown so your exports are current.

2.4 How long will support be available?
Support remains available in-app and at aladdin@getgenie.io through August 31. Reach out early if you need help with exports, refunds, or migration planning.

2.5 Is there a grace period or emergency read-only mode after August 31?
Unfortunately, we cannot provide a grace period. Once Genie shuts down, accounts are no longer accessible. Please export in advance; we won’t be able to pull data after shutdown.

3. Refunds and Billing

3.1 I was on an annual plan. Will I get a refund?
Yes. We’re refunding any unused prepaid time from July 10, 2025 (when all accounts moved to Unlimited Free) through the end of your paid annual term.

3.2 How is my refund calculated?
Refunds are daily pro‑rata following the formula: Annual fee ÷ 365 × prepaid days after July 10, 2025.

For example: If you were on a $499 annual plan that started September 9, 2024 (ends September 8, 2025) you have 61 prepaid days after July 10, so the refund is about $83.36 (61/365* $499).

3.3 How and when will I receive my refund?
We’ll email eligible annual customers. Refunds will probably be processed through Stripe; we may ask you to confirm payout details. Watch your inbox so we can issue funds promptly.

3.4 I was on a monthly plan. Do I get anything back?
Monthly billing stopped before July 10. All monthly accounts were moved to Unlimited Free through August 31. You don’t need to do anything and will not be charged.

3.5 I think I was charged after July 10—what do I do?
Check your Shopify billing history. If you see any Genie charge dated after July 10, 2025, email aladdin@getgenie.io with the screenshot, and we’ll investigate it.

4. Data and Migration

4.1 What data can I export from Genie?
You can self‑export the following before shutdown:

  • Products (step-by-step instructions here)

  • Purchase Orders (step-by-step instructions here)

  • Shipments (step-by-step instructions here)

  • Inventory Table (step-by-step instructions here)

4.2 What should I do before exporting?
Clear all filters, then export. Repeat for every dataset you need (Products, POs, Shipments, Inventory). This prevents partial or filtered exports.

4.3 Can I choose which fields are included?
Yes, for the Inventory Table you control visible columns and filters before download. For a full historical record, expose everything before exporting.

4.4 Does the PO export include closed or received POs?
Yes. PO exports include all non‑cancelled POs—both open and closed/received—so you capture historical receiving and cost data.

4.5 Will my export include historical data?
Exports reflect whatever is in your account at the moment you export. If you want a point‑in‑time snapshot, export early and again later if needed.

4.6 Can Genie transform or reformat my data for another system?
No. We can’t run custom data transforms—we’re supporting more than 300 customer migrations and have limited bandwidth with only 1 person on the team. Export raw, then share with your new platform or data team.

5. Moving to Doss

5.1 Is Doss the recommended next step?
Yes. Genie has joined Doss, and many Genie merchants are already live there. If you liked Genie’s approach, Doss is the most direct path forward - and offers much, much more that Genie did not.

5.2 Will Doss give Genie customers a deal?
Doss may extend preferred pricing for Genie customers. It’s automatically considered during pricing—confirm during your demo.

5.3 When do I start paying Doss?
You don’t pay Doss until your Doss account is live. No double‑pay overlap.

5.4 What help does Doss provide with migration?
Doss offers hands‑on onboarding. Scope—including data import, workflows, and integrations—is defined in your implementation plan. They are very familiar with Genie's exports, so just bring yourself, your tool stack and your operational aspirations to your demo meeting.

5.5 How long does a typical Doss implementation take?
It depends on the complexity of the install, but about 10 weeks from signing contract is typical. The Doss team can provide more information on this, and is great at implementing* fast* and providing great estimates. Several Genie customers have already launched on Doss, so your build may go faster because key logic exists.

5.6 Can I see an example from another Genie merchant who moved to Doss?
Yes! onewith migrated from Genie to Doss, which helped them unlock pre-orders and more. Read the case study here.

5.7 What if Doss isn’t a fit?
No problem—we’ll point you to alternatives. Example: Fabrikator for a Shopify‑centric inventory and PO workflow. More information on them here: Fabrikatör Guide for Genie Users.

6. Legal and Account Questions

6.1 What happens to my data after shutdown?
Any remaining Genie production data and backups will be permanently deleted by October 31, 2025. Export everything you need before August 31.

6.2 How do I download my invoices for accounting? Will uninstalling Genie remove my Shopify billing history?
Genie charges flow through Shopify billing. In Shopify Admin > Settings > Billing, you can view and export all historical Genie invoices. These remain available in Shopify even after Genie shuts down.

6.3 Do I need to sign anything to terminate my Genie subscription?
No paperwork. All accounts have been moved to to the Unlimited Free Plan (which costs $0 pm) and close automatically at shutdown.

7. Support, Billing Checks, and Next Steps

7.1 How do I contact Genie before shutdown?
Reach us in the in‑app chat (Intercom) or email aladdin@getgenie.io any time through August 31.

7.2 How do I confirm my last Genie charge?
In Shopify: Admin > Settings > Billing > Bills, then filter for Genie. If you see a charge dated after July 10, 2025, email us to with a screenshot and we will look into it.

8.3 How do I uninstall the Genie app from Shopify?
In Shopify: Admin > Apps & sales channels > Genie > Remove/Uninstall. Do this only after you’ve exported data and confirmed billing.

8.4 I manage multiple Shopify stores—how should I export?
Export each connected store separately. Repeat the export steps in every store’s Genie workspace so nothing gets missed.

8.5 I have a very large account. When should I request exports?
If you expect very large datasets (hundreds of thousands of rows), request exports at least 14 days before August 31 so we can queue and process the job in time.
