What is an agentic step?
An agentic step runs an automated agent at a specific point in your campaign's sequence. The agent executes instructions you define for each prospect that reaches that step. It runs once per prospect.
How to add an agentic step?
Go to your Campaigns page.
Click on a campaign to open it.
Click the Sequence tab.
You'll see your existing sequence steps (messages, etc.).
Click + Add step to add an agentic step..
Step configuration
Timing
Choose when the step runs relative to the previous step (e.g., "4 hours", "1 day", "immediately").
Instructions
Click Write your own to add custom instructions.
Describe what the agent should do in plain language.
Example: "Look up this prospect in our Salesforce CRM. If they're an existing customer, skip them. If they're a lead, check their last activity date."
Stop sequence if fails (optional)
Toggle on if you want to stop the sequence for a prospect when the agent fails to complete the step.
Default is off (sequence continues even if the agent fails).
What happens when an agentic step runs
The step executes when the prospect reaches that point in the sequence.
A success or failure badge appears in the prospect's conversation view.
Hover over the badge to see what the agent did.
If a connected tool is unavailable, the step is skipped and a warning appears on the campaign.
Heads up! If you create a campaign with only an agentic step (if relevant) and no connection request (CR) or message, Spear treats it as a custom message campaign. This means activating it will automatically generate 25 suggestions.
