Tools and data sources your agent can use

Connect 38+ integrations and data sources to your Spear agent. Read live data from your CRM, power routines, enable agentic steps, and automate without copy-paste.

Tools let your agent access live data

The Tools page is where you connect data sources and integrations that power your Spear workflows. Find it under Setup > Tools in the left panel, or click the Tools quick-action button under the composer on your agent home. Once connected, your agent can:

  • Read live data from your CRM, productivity tools, and platforms (no manual exports)

  • Power routines and plays that run on a schedule

  • Enable agentic steps in your campaigns

  • Answer questions directly in chat (in-app and Slack)

You're not moving data around. The agent pulls what it needs when it needs it.

38+ Tools Available

Go to Setup > Tools in Spear to see the full list and connect them.

  • CRM & Sales (9 tools): HubSpot, Salesforce, Close, Apollo, Asana, Attio, ZoomInfo, People Data Labs, Clay

  • Communication & Scheduling (7 tools): Gmail, Slack, Calendly, Cal, Zoom, Discord, Fathom

  • Productivity & Knowledge (4 tools): Notion, ClickUp, GitHub, Amplitude

  • Data & Advertising (7 tools): Reddit, PostHog, Reddit Ads, Meta Ads, Stripe, Webflow, LinkedIn Ads

  • Data Enrichment & Intelligence (4 tools): RB2B, Gong, Fireflies, ActiveCampaign

  • Development & Operations (3 tools): ElevenLabs, Gamma, Dynamics 365

Need a tool that's not here? Add a custom MCP server instead.

How to Connect a Pre-Built Tool

Step 1: In the left panel, open Setup > Tools.

Step 2: Search for the tool (e.g., "Gmail", "HubSpot").

Step 3: Click Connect on the tool's card.

Step 4: Authorize Spear to access that service. You'll be redirected to the tool's login page.

Step 5: Return to Spear. The tool now shows a green Connected toggle.

Your agent can now access that tool's data in routines, agentic steps, and chat. Spear also offers to add the plays that tool now powers.

How to Add a Custom MCP Server

If you have a custom tool or internal system, connect it using a custom MCP (Model Context Protocol) server.

Step 1: Go to Setup > Tools > Add MCP server.
Step 2: Choose authentication: HTTP or OAuth2.

HTTP Authentication

Use this for servers that accept API keys or bearer tokens in headers or query parameters.

Fields:

  • Name: Give your server a name (e.g., "Internal CRM")

  • Server URL: The HTTPS endpoint. Must be reachable from the public internet

  • Auth headers: Add required headers (e.g., Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN). Stored encrypted

  • Query parameters: For authentication in the URL (e.g., ?api_key=value). Stored encrypted, never shown

  • Allow tools that make changes: Toggle on if your tools create, edit, or delete data. Off by default

  • Custom instructions (optional): Tell the agent when to use this server (e.g., "Use for internal employee data")

Step 3: Click Connect. Spear tests the connection and discovers available tools from your server.

OAuth2 Authentication

Use this for servers requiring OAuth2.

Fields:

  • Name: Give your server a name

  • Server URL: The HTTPS endpoint

  • Client ID (optional): Your OAuth client ID (if the server can't self-register)

  • Client secret (optional): Your OAuth client secret

  • Allow tools that make changes: Toggle for write access

  • Custom instructions (optional): When to use this server

Step 3: Click Authorize. You'll be redirected to grant Spear access.

Step 4: Once authorized, Spear discovers available tools from your server.

Managing Your Tools

View connected tools: Go to Setup > Tools. Green toggles show active connections.

Pause a tool: Click its toggle to turn it off. It's paused (not deleted) and can be re-enabled later.

Delete a tool: For custom MCP servers, hover and select delete to remove it entirely.

Search: Use the search bar to find tools by name or type.

See which plays a tool powers

Every tool card on the Tools tab shows a plays line, so you can see what a tool is for before and after you connect it:

  • Not connected: the line lists the plays you unlock by connecting the tool.

  • Connected: the line lists the plays the tool powers.

Click the plays line to see the plays. From there you can:

  • Add a play to your profile

  • Connect the missing tool first, if a play needs a tool you haven't connected yet

Right after you connect a tool

Spear offers to add the plays that tool now powers, so you can go straight from connecting to running a play.

Plays ready for tools you already connected

A one-time popup lists the plays that are ready to run with the tools you've already connected. Click Add all to add them in one go.

Adding a play creates a routine on your profile. Learn more in What are Spear Plays?

Troubleshooting

Tool won't connect?

  • Verify your authentication credentials are correct and have the right permissions

  • For OAuth tools, make sure you're granting all requested scopes

  • For custom MCP servers, check that the URL is HTTPS and reachable from the public internet

Tool connected but not showing in chat or routines?

  • Refresh your browser

  • Make sure the tool's toggle is on (green)

  • Confirm your plan includes that tool
