Delete Files

Remove a file from the database

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Delete a file to clear an outdated logo, marker, or model out of your library so nobody drops it into a new site study.

Added a GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML, DXF, CSV, Esri service, WMS, or tile service as a layer? Layers don't appear in the File Manager. Remove the layer from your project instead.

Delete a file from the File Manager

  1. Go to Home. From inside a project, click the Giraffe logo at the top left and choose Home, or click Home in the breadcrumbs.

  2. Click Files in the Home sidebar. The File Manager opens with the heading My Files.

  3. Click the pencil icon on the file. The Edit file window opens.

  4. Click Delete File.

  5. Click Delete in the Delete item? window to confirm.

🚨 Warning: Deleting a file removes it from every project, content pack, and report that uses it. Images and 3D models that point to the file stop loading.

Deleting a file needs Admin access to that file. The person who uploaded a file has Admin access. Admins of the workspace that owns the file also have Admin access.

Remove a file from a project

Removing a file from a project, or deleting the geometry that uses it, leaves the file in your File Manager. The file stays available for other projects. Delete it from the File Manager to remove it completely.

Replace a file instead of deleting it

To swap an outdated logo or model for a new one, replace the file's content. Projects that use a private file show the new version. See Edit File Metadata.
