Edit File Metadata

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Keep your file library easy to search as it grows across deals and sites. Give each file a clear name, description, thumbnail, and tags, and replace its content when a logo or model changes.

Open a file's details

  1. Go to Home. From inside a project, click the Giraffe logo at the top left and choose Home, or click Home in the breadcrumbs.

  2. Click Files in the Home sidebar. The File Manager opens with the heading My Files.

  3. Click the pencil icon on the file. The Edit file window opens.

Each row in the Edit file window has its own edit button. Click Close or press Esc when you are done.

Changing a file needs Admin access to that file. The person who uploaded a file has Admin access. Admins of the workspace that owns the file also have Admin access.

Rename a file

  1. In the file's Edit file window, click the Edit name button on the Name row.

  2. Type the new name in New name and confirm.

The File Manager search matches file names, so pick a name your team will search for.

Add or change a description

  1. In the file's Edit file window, click the Edit description button on the Description row.

  2. Type the description in New description and confirm.

Change a file's thumbnail

In the file's Edit file window, click the Edit thumbnail button on the Thumbnail row and choose an image. Giraffe resizes the thumbnail to 200 pixels on its longest side.

Replace a file's content

Replace a file when a logo, marker, or model changes, so you keep the same file and its sharing.

  1. In the file's Edit file window, click the Edit File button on the File Content row.

  2. Choose the new image or 3D model.

Projects that use a file show its new content after you replace it. A file with a Public URL gets a new link when you replace it, and projects that saved the old link stop loading it.

Files from a content pack cannot have their content replaced here. Republish the content pack to update them.

Add or remove tags

  1. In the file's Edit file window, click Add tag on the Tags row.

  2. Type the tag in New tag and confirm.

To remove a tag, click the X on that tag. Each tag can only be added once per file.

Public URL setting

The Public URL setting is chosen when a file is uploaded and cannot be changed in the Edit file window.
