There's no Save button in a Giraffe project. Every geometry you draw, property you change, and setting you update saves automatically as you work. Everyone with access to the project sees your changes.
What you can edit in a project
Everything in a project is editable, and every change saves on its own:
Geometries: draw, move, reshape, and delete buildings, parcels, roads, and more.
Properties: change the values on any geometry, like height or levels.
Usages: set the shared assumptions behind each type of geometry, like costs and unit mix.
Flows: build and adjust the logic that turns simple shapes into full layouts.
Blocks: create and edit reusable groups of geometries.
Layers: add data layers, organize drawing layers, and change their style and visibility.
Scenarios: compare design options side by side.
Analytics: add and edit measures, categories, and tabs.
Apps: add apps and change their settings.
Layouts: arrange panels and save layout tabs.
Project boundary: reshape the boundary in the boundary editor.
Project details, like the name, units, and thumbnail: see Project Settings.
Check that your changes saved
The save icon on the left of the bottom bar shows whether Giraffe has saved your changes. Hover over it to see its status.
Work offline
If Giraffe can't reach the server, the save icon turns into a red cloud and a message says Can't save your changes right now. Keep working. Your changes are saved on your device and sync automatically when the connection comes back. The message goes away on its own once you're back online.
Don't clear your browser data while you're offline. Changes that haven't synced yet are stored in your browser.
Undo a change
Undo and redo from the Edit menu or with their keyboard shortcuts. Undo history starts fresh each time you open the project.
Editors that need you to save
A few editors hold your changes until you save them, so you can try something without changing the project for everyone:
The boundary editor: click Save changes when you're done, or Cancel to leave the boundary as it was. Edit the Boundary covers the editor.
The Usage Editor: click the save icon, Save changes, at the top of the editor.
Block editing: click Save & Exit to keep your changes, or Discard to throw them away.
If you close the boundary editor or the Usage Editor with changes you haven't saved, Giraffe asks before throwing them away.
Go back to an earlier version
Undo only goes back so far. To keep a copy of the project as it is now, or get back an older one, use the Snapshots and Backups tabs in Project Settings.
Snapshots: click Save Snapshot to save a copy of the project at any moment. Click Restore on a snapshot to open it as a new project.
Backups: Giraffe backs up the project in your browser every 15 minutes, and again when you close the tab. Click Load on a backup to open it as a new project.
Restoring a snapshot or backup never overwrites your project. It always makes a new one. Backups are stored in your browser, so you only see backups made on the device you're using. Backups are available on Team and Enterprise plans.
If you can't make changes
If you only have view access to a project, edits don't save. Giraffe shows You do not have edit permission. when you try, and menu items that change the project are grayed out. Ask a project admin for edit access. Sharing in Giraffe explains each permission level.
