Every parcel, building, and site boundary in your project carries properties: its usage, its height, its color, its scenario. The properties palette shows all of them for the geometries you select, so you can check and adjust the numbers that drive your yield and feasibility. Use it when you need more than the common fields in Quick Properties.
Open the properties palette
The properties palette is the Properties app. It sits in a panel next to Layers in the default layouts. Select a geometry on the map to fill it with that geometry's properties.
If your layout doesn't show it, add the Properties app to a panel. Click Add an app, search for "Properties", and choose it.
The properties palette stays where you put it. Selecting a geometry fills it in and doesn't open it.
Read the header
The top of the properties palette shows how many geometries you have selected, such as 1 selected or 3 selected. It shows Nothing selected when you have no selection. With nothing selected, the properties palette is greyed out.
Change a geometry's layer, scenario, or usage
Three fields sit at the top of the properties palette for every selection:
Layer is the drawing layer the geometry is on. Click the pencil button to open Layers.
Scenario is the scenario the geometry belongs to. Click Edit scenario to assign it to a different scenario.
Usage is the category applied to the geometry, like Residential or Open Space. Click Edit usage to open the usage editor, or click the x to remove the usage.
Find a property
Below the usage, the properties palette groups properties into sections. A section only appears when it applies to the selected geometry. The sections are:
Analytics, for custom properties you've added.
Built Form, for height, levels, and floor to floor.
Primitive
Appearance, for fill and line styling. Learn how to style a geometry with appearance properties.
Building Data
Label, for the text shown on the map.
Categories
Precinct Planning / Lots
Roads
Parking
Files
Geometry
Terrain
Click a section's title to expand or collapse it. Giraffe remembers which sections you left open.
Every property shows in its section. Less common settings sit behind the adjustments icon in a section's header, which appears when you hover over the header. For example, the Appearance section's icon opens Advanced appearance settings.
Change the usage, colors, and building height right above the map with Quick Properties.
Hover actions in the properties palette
Many buttons in the properties palette stay hidden until you hover over them. This keeps the properties palette clean while you read your numbers. Hover over a property, a section header, or a field to show its actions.
On a property
Revert to default (back arrow): removes the value you set, so the geometry uses its usage's value again. It only shows when your value differs from the usage's value.
Info icon: hover over it to read what the property does.
A property shows a faded value when it comes from the geometry's usage. It shows a bold value when you've set it on the geometry itself.
On a section header
Adjustments icon: opens the section's advanced settings. Appearance, Built Form, and Label have one. Learn more in Advanced Settings.
On Layer, Scenario, and Usage
Open layers (pencil, next to Layer): opens Layers.
Edit scenario (pencil, next to Scenario): opens the scenario. It shows when the geometry belongs to one scenario.
Edit usage (pencil, next to Usage): opens the usage editor.
Remove usage (x, next to Usage): removes the usage from the selected geometries.
On Flow Controls
Open flow (pencil): opens the flow in the Flow app.
Remove Flow (x): removes the flow and the geometries it generated.
Revert to default on a flow input: sets that input back to the flow's default.
On a whole-number field
Decrease and Increase arrows: step the value down or up. You can also press
↑or↓, or click and drag left or right on the field.
Edit several geometries at once
Select more than one geometry to edit them together. The properties palette shows the properties they share. A change you make applies to every selected geometry. A property that differs across the selection shows as blank until you set it.
Add a custom property
Add your own properties to track anything your analysis needs, such as a lot number or an acquisition status.
Custom properties appear in the Analytics section.
Set properties before you draw
Turn on Remember properties with a draw tool active. The properties palette then edits the properties for the next geometry you draw, even with nothing selected. Changing Layer or Scenario here changes the active layer or scenario you draw into.
View a geometry's JSON
The properties palette shows properties as a form. To see or edit a geometry's raw properties and GeoJSON, open the JSON Editor app.
View a geometry's summary
The properties palette shows properties as a form. To see a summary of the selected geometries, open the Summary app.
