The analysis of these data will allow us to evaluate the carbon footprint of each trip (flights, train, car rides or hotel nights) and to identify the main action levers on this emission item.
1. Why consider emissions from Business Travel?
Business travel, especially air travel, can contribute significantly to a company’s Scope 3 emissions. These indirect emissions, generated outside the company’s direct operations, are part of the overall carbon footprint and should be accounted for to provide a comprehensive view.
Monitoring business travel emissions allows companies to align cost savings with sustainability goals. Reducing unnecessary travel can lower expenses while contributing to the organization’s sustainability objectives.
2. Upload your data
To complete the module, go to Data -> Activity overview > Travels and follow the steps below:
You have two options to upload your data:
Manually, on the platform by clicking on "Add data manually"
Using the template by clicking on "Import file". The template is downloaded in the same language as the platform. When using it, we ask you to fill the English one with English data and the French one with French data. You can always download the other language on the READ ME page of the template.
Whichever you use, please make sure to fill out the mandatory fields: on the platform, you need to fill in at least one of the lines with two black **. You must fill at least one of the blue columns on the template.
Keep in mind that you have to complete at least one of the following information:
For flights and trains: Destination, Distance, Cost, Currency;
For cars: Destination, Distance, Cost, Fuel or Electricity consumption;
For hotels: Country of accommodation.
There are also additional data that would help us provide even more accurate results and we highly recommend including them.
Travel agencies data
Most travel agencies can provide you with an annual export of your trips. If you use this type of service, contact your travel agency to obtain this information.
Those exports are very useful, as they provide most of the time very detailed information that we can treat to guarantee maximum accuracy and granularity on your data analysis.
You will find here an example of travel agency exports: Egencia (FR)
If you do not have the necessary information to complete this module, you can click on "Skip the module" at the bottom left of the page.
3. Review your data and read your results
Once you have uploaded your data, you can flag the expenses related to the module to avoid double counting and access your results. To do so, please read the related article.
