How to Create and Sell Gift Card Vouchers

Written by Jesse McNeil

To create and sell gift cards in Groovio, follow these steps:

  1. Create a Gift Card Product: Go to Retail > Products and create a new product, like “$50 Gift Card.”

  2. View Orders: When a customer purchases a gift card, their order will appear under Retail > Orders.

  3. Generate a Discount Code: Create a unique discount code associated with the gift card. You can write this code on a physical voucher or email it directly to the recipient.

  4. Control Code Restrictions: While creating the discount code, set restrictions as needed. You can specify which classes, packages, memberships, or products the gift card can be applied to, allowing you to exclude certain items if desired.

Using these steps, you can offer gift card vouchers to your customers and customize how and where they’re used.

Gifting a pass to another student: students can’t buy a package or membership directly for another student. A gift card voucher is the self-serve way to do it: the payer buys the gift card, and the recipient uses the discount code when they buy the pass on their own account. Staff can also sell the pass from the recipient’s profile via Checkout. See Using Groovio’s Checkout.

The “Gift Card” payment method in staff checkout: selecting Gift Card as the payment method only records that the customer paid with a physical/paper gift voucher — it’s an offline payment, like cash. It doesn’t take or validate a code and isn’t linked to discount codes.
