How to Select an Alternate Save Location for the Extraction Backup

This article explains how to select an external location (different from your computer’s hard drive) to save the extraction backup.

Updated this week

This article explains how to choose an alternate save location for your extraction backup during setup.

You can save the extraction backup to an external drive (such as a USB or external hard drive) instead of your computer’s internal storage. This is helpful if your computer doesn’t have enough space or if you prefer to store the backup separately for long-term preservation.

Step 1: Click Browse

During extraction setup, you’ll have the option to choose where the extraction backup is saved. To select a specific location, click the Browse button.

Step 2: Select the Drive

Choose the folder, external drive, or cloud-synced location where you want to save the backup, then click Open.

If using an external drive, we recommend an external SSD for best performance. Flash or thumb drives are supported, but they tend to be slower and more prone to errors than SSDs or external hard drives.

If you're selecting a cloud storage folder (like Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive), it must be mounted locally on your computer — the folder should behave like a regular file path.

Step 3: Start Backup

Once you’ve selected a location with enough available storage, click Start Backup to begin the extraction.
