Atlas supported languages and how to localize your store

See which languages Atlas supports for page generation and learn how to localize your store for unsupported languages.

Updated this week

Atlas can generate page content in multiple languages. If your target language is supported, you can generate your home pages and product pages directly in that language. If it's not supported, you can still localize your store using Shopify's native language tools.

In this article:

  1. Supported languages

  2. Generating pages in your language

  3. What if your language isn't supported

  4. How to add a language in Shopify

  5. Why some sections don't translate automatically

Generating pages in your language

When you start a new page generation in the Atlas page builder, you'll see a Store language dropdown at the top of the configuration screen. Select your language and Atlas will generate all page content, including product copy, headings, descriptions, and section text, in that language.

For a full walkthrough of the page generation process, see How to generate pages with Atlas

What if your language isn't supported

If your language is not available in Atlas (for example, Hebrew), your generated content will be in a supported language, most commonly English. From there you have two options:

  • Translate using Shopify's language tools. Shopify's free Translate & Adapt app lets you translate theme text, page content, product details, and system text into any language.

  • Manually translate key content. Edit the generated text directly in the Shopify theme editor or product editor and replace it with your own translated content.

💡 You can combine both approaches. Use the Translate & Adapt app for system-level text and manually refine key selling copy like headlines and product descriptions for the best results.

How to add a language in Shopify

  1. Go to Settings > Languages in your Shopify admin.

  2. Click Add language.

  3. Choose the language you want to support.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Use the Translate & Adapt app or another translation app to translate any remaining content.

Why some sections don't translate automatically

Some theme sections or app content may not be connected to Shopify's translation system. This is why parts of your store can stay in English even after adding a language. Translation apps like Translate & Adapt help cover those gaps by giving you direct access to translate individual fields.

For more details on editing translations, see [How to edit page translations in the Translate & Adapt app].
