Adding subscriptions to your bundle

Learn how to add subscription options to your bundle so customers can choose between one-time purchases and recurring deliveries.

Atlas Bundle Deals lets you display a subscription option alongside your bundle offers, giving customers the choice between a one-time purchase and a recurring subscription. This is a powerful way to increase customer lifetime value and build predictable revenue.

There is one critical thing to understand upfront: Atlas does not create or manage subscriptions. It only links to subscription plans you've already set up through a third-party Shopify subscription app. You must install and configure a subscription app before enabling this feature in the bundler.

To configure subscriptions, click Subscriptions in the left sidebar under Customize in the bundle editor.

In this article:

Before you start

Before enabling subscriptions in the bundler, you need a third-party Shopify subscription app installed and configured with active selling plans for your products.

Atlas recommends Loop for the best compatibility, although any Shopify subscription app that creates standard selling plans should work. Your subscription app handles everything related to the subscription itself: billing cycles, delivery schedules, customer management, and cancellations. Atlas simply displays the subscription option in the bundle widget and connects it to the plans your app has created.

⚠️ If you enable subscriptions in the bundler without a third-party subscription app installed, a warning banner will appear: "This product has no subscription plans yet. To offer subscriptions, set them up in a third-party app first. Our bundler only links to those plans, it doesn't create or manage them." You must set up your subscription app first.

Enabling subscriptions

Check the Enable subscriptions checkbox to activate the subscription option in your bundle. Once enabled, a subscription card appears in the bundle widget (either above or below the offer tiers, depending on your position setting) that customers can select to switch from a one-time purchase to a subscription.

When a customer selects the subscription option, their order is processed through your subscription app's selling plan instead of as a standard one-time purchase.

Position and layout

Position: Controls where the subscription card appears in the bundle widget relative to the offer tiers.

  • Above items: The subscription card appears at the top of the bundle, before the offer tiers. This gives it maximum visibility.

  • Below items: The subscription card appears at the bottom, after all the offer tiers.

Layout: Controls how the subscription option is presented to customers. There are three layout options:

  • Single Checkbox: Displays a single checkbox the customer can check to opt into the subscription. This is the simplest and most common layout.

  • Horizontal Radios: Displays the one-time and subscription options as horizontal radio buttons side by side.

  • Vertical Radios: Displays the one-time and subscription options as stacked vertical radio buttons.

Text alignment: Controls how the text inside the subscription card is aligned. Options are Left, Center, or Right.

Customizing subscription text

You have full control over the text displayed on the subscription card for both the one-time and subscription options:

One time title: The label for the one-time purchase option. Default: "One-time purchase."

Subscription title: The label for the subscription option. Default: "Subscribe & Save 20%." Customize this to match whatever discount or benefit your subscription plan offers.

One time subtitle: An optional line of supporting text below the one-time title. Leave empty if not needed.

Subscription subtitle: Supporting text below the subscription title. Default: "Delivered every 30 days." Use this to communicate the delivery frequency so customers know what to expect.

💡 Be specific in the subscription subtitle. Instead of just "Subscribe & save," tell customers exactly what they get: "Delivered every 30 days" or "Ships monthly, cancel anytime." Clear expectations reduce subscription cancellations.

Checkbox behavior

These settings control how the subscription option behaves when a customer first sees the bundle:

Checkbox dashed border: When enabled, the subscription checkbox or card border uses a dashed line style instead of a solid border, making it visually distinct from the offer tiers.

Checked by default: When enabled, the subscription option is pre-selected when the customer loads the page. The customer would need to uncheck it to switch to a one-time purchase. Use this carefully as it can boost subscription sign-ups but may frustrate customers who don't notice it's pre-selected.

Show subscription save badge: When enabled, a small badge (like "Save 20%") appears on the subscription card to highlight the discount. The badge colors are configured in the Colors tab under "Subscription colors."

⚠️ Be transparent with "Checked by default." While it can increase subscription rates, customers who accidentally subscribe may lead to higher cancellation rates and negative reviews. Make sure the subscription option is clearly visible and easy to understand.

Pricing display options

Show pricing on subscription cards: When enabled, pricing information is displayed directly on the subscription card so customers can see the subscription price without needing to do the math themselves. When disabled, the subscription card shows only the title and subtitle text.

Subscription benefits

Show subscription benefits list: When enabled, a list of benefits appears on the subscription card. This is where you can highlight the advantages of subscribing, like free shipping, a percentage discount, or priority support.

The benefits list uses checkmark icons, which you can color-customize in the Colors tab under "Subscription colors" using the "Check icon color (for benefits list)" setting.

Vertical card minimum height: A slider (in pixels, default 50px) that sets the minimum height of the subscription card. Increase this if your subscription text and benefits list need more vertical space to display cleanly.

Subscription colors and text

The subscription card's visual appearance is configured in two other tabs:

  • Colors tab: The "Subscription colors" section controls backgrounds, text colors, borders, badge colors, pricing colors, and the benefits list check icon color. See Customizing your bundle appearance for the full list of settings.

  • Text tab: Font sizes and weights for subscription text are not in a separate section. The subscription card inherits styling from the main text settings.

ℹ️ the subscription card is one of the most visually complex elements in the bundle widget. Take time to ensure its colors and text contrast well against both the selected and unselected states so customers can clearly see it regardless of which state it's in.
