Project settings is where you give Atlas the raw material it writes from. It holds four things: the customer research documents, a choice about how closely Atlas should follow them, a library of saved personas and angles, and the colour palette new pages open on. It is also where you rename or delete the project. Fill it in once and every page you build inside that project gets better.

To reach it, open the project dropdown above the dashboard table and select the gear next to the project. The gear's tooltip is Project settings. Project settings opens in a window over the dashboard, titled Project settings, with Save and Cancel. When you create a project with New project, the same window opens titled New project. With no projects yet, the dropdown only offers New project and All projects.

In this article:

Name is the project's name, as it appears in the project dropdown and in every build flow's project picker. Change it and select Save to rename the project. Two projects cannot share a name: a name already in use shows A project with this name already exists under the field. Save is unavailable while the field is empty.

Customer research helps Atlas understand your customer persona, what they want, their objections, and what motivates them to buy.

Select Upload research files and pick one or more files. Atlas analyses them, showing Analyzing your document…, and then lists each file on its own row.

Below the list, use Add files to add more, up to the Up to 10 files shown beside it, and Remove all to delete the whole set. Each file also has its own remove button, the X at the end of its row. Removing one file asks Remove this file? on its row, and the remaining files are re-analyzed. Remove all asks Remove this research? before it deletes the set, which cannot be undone.

A file Atlas cannot read shows Couldn't process this file, with the advice to re-save it from Word, Pages or Google Docs and upload it again.

Uploads and removals save on their own, without Save. Full detail on accepted types and sizes is in Uploading customer research and style references.

Directly under the research, How should we use these documents? lets you choose how closely Atlas follows your uploaded research. Stick closely to my angles and personas is selected until you change it, and the choice is saved with Save.

Two options:

Heading Saved personas: personas and angles saved from the angle wizard, plus any you write yourself. Reuse them when building pages so your avatar never drifts between tests.

This is the reusable output of your work. Empty to begin with: No saved personas yet. Save one from the angle wizard, or add your own.

Each persona has a name, a description and one or more angles. Select Add persona to write one yourself, which Atlas marks Written by you. The form opens in place of the list:

Select Add persona at the bottom of the form to save it. A persona saves on its own, with Persona saved, and does not wait for the window's Save. A project holds up to 25 saved personas, each with up to 10 angles.

Use Edit to change one, Show all with the total, for example Show all (5), to expand a list of more than 3, and Delete to remove one. Deleting asks on the persona's own row, naming the persona, for example Delete Busy new parents from this project? Pages already built with it are unaffected.

Color palette sets the colours new pages built in this project open on. It shows the current palette, Default until you pick another. Select Change to open the list of palettes: Default, Beauty, Lifestyle, Health, Pet, Kids, Home, Street and Luxury. Choose one, then select Save. A project whose palette was set with the earlier colour picker also lists Custom palette.

The palette is a starting point. It applies when a new page's design offers colour palettes, you can still change colours for individual pages in the Atlas editor, and pages already built keep their colours.

Delete project sits at the bottom of the window. Selecting it closes Project settings and asks you to confirm, and Cancel in the confirmation brings Project settings back. A project you have just created with New project has no Delete project button: closing its window without saving deletes it instead.

The research upload and the saved persona library save themselves as you go. Name, How should we use these documents? and Color palette save when you select Save, which also closes the window. Cancel closes it without saving those three.

Saving confirms with Settings saved. A failure shows Couldn't save settings. Try again., and the window stays open with your changes so you can retry.

For a project you have just created with New project, Cancel deletes the project, along with any research or personas you added to it.
