By the end of this you will know how to create a project, rename it, and delete it safely. The important part is the last one: deleting a project does not delete what is inside it, and knowing that in advance saves a lot of worry.
In this article:
Creating a project
There are two places to do this.
From the dashboard:
Find the
Projectspanel on the left of the content table.Select
New project.Type a name into the
Project namefield.Select
Create.
While starting a build: every build flow asks for a project first. Select + Create a new project, type a name into Enter project name..., and select Create. The build then continues into the project you just made.
Name it after the brand rather than the campaign. Projects hold your voice and research, which outlive any one campaign.
If creating fails
What you see | What it means |
| Project names must be unique. Pick another. |
| You are at the limit. Delete or reuse an existing project. |
| A temporary failure. Try once more. |
| The same failure, worded differently inside a build wizard |
Renaming a project
Select the project in the rail.
Open the
Project settingstab.Open the
Actionsmenu and chooseRename project.Change the name and select
Save.
Renaming is cosmetic. It changes nothing about the pages, bundles or cart drawers inside, and nothing on your storefront. If it fails you will see Could not rename project. Please try again.
The limits
Limit | Value | What happens at the limit |
Projects per store | 25 |
|
Items per project | 25 | The project shows |
An item is any page, store, landing page, bundle or cart drawer assigned to that project. Neither limit varies by plan.
When assigning several items at once to a project with limited room, Atlas tells you how much room is left rather than partially filling it: {used}/{max} used — not enough room for {needed}.
💡 If you are near 25 items, check the Pages tab for old drafts you no longer need. Deleting a draft frees a slot and has no effect on your store or your bill.
Deleting a project
Select the project in the rail.
Open the
Project settingstab.Open the
Actionsmenu and chooseDelete project.Read the warning, then select
Delete project.
What deleting removes and what it keeps
Read this carefully: it is far less destructive than it sounds.
Kept:
Every page, store, landing page, bundle and cart drawer in the project. They stay in your Atlas account and become unassigned, with no project.
Everything already published to your theme. Your storefront does not change at all.
Your active bundles and cart drawer. They keep running.
Removed:
The project itself, and its settings: research documents, style reference and saved personas.
The activity log entries belonging to that project.
The confirmation dialog:
Pages, bundles, cart drawers, images, and listicles in this project will remain in your store and become unassigned (no project). Activity log entries for this project will be removed.
⚠️ The project's research documents and saved personas are deleted with it and cannot be recovered. If you may want them again, download your research files first and copy any personas you want to keep into another project.
