Editing your page in the Atlas editor

A tour of the Atlas editor, from the top bar to the section settings, and how to change copy, colours and layout before publishing.

Written by Eddie Lavandera

The Atlas editor is where you review and change a generated page before it goes live. It opens automatically when a build finishes, and you can return to it later with the Edit action on any page row in your dashboard. Everything here is editable: copy, colours, which sections appear, and the order of blocks inside them.

In this article:

Publish pages

Puts the pages on your store. A build holding one page says Publish page

Non-subscribers see Upgrade to publish in place of the publish button.

On a narrow screen the labels shorten to Page, Pages, Home, Product, Import and Publish. They do the same things.

Choosing which page you are editing

A full store build produces several pages. Use the page selector, labelled Select a page, to move between them. You will see entries such as Home page and Product page, and the one currently live on your theme is marked with (Live).

That live marker matters. It tells you which version your customers are seeing right now, as opposed to which version you are editing.

The sections list

The left panel lists the Sections that make up your page, in the order they appear. Select one to open its settings.

Each section can be hidden with Hide section and brought back with Show section. A hidden section shows the label Hidden and does not appear on the published page.

💡 Hiding is better than deleting when you are unsure. A hidden section keeps its content, so you can bring it back later without regenerating anything.

If you have changed a section and want to undo your edits, Reset changes restores it.

Two states you may see instead of a list:

  • Loading template sections... while the editor loads

  • No editable sections are available for this template. if the template exposes nothing to edit

Section settings

Selecting a section opens its fields. What you see depends on the section, but these are the common ones:

Field

What it controls

Heading, Title, Body, Text

The main copy in the section

Product title, Product description

Product-specific copy

Benefit 1 to Benefit 12

Individual benefit lines

Highlight 1 to Highlight 3

Highlighted claims

Add to cart text, Buy now text, Sticky button text

Button labels

Rating text, Purchase text

Social proof copy

Review {n} author, Review {n} location, Review {n} text

Individual testimonials

Stat heading, Stat text

Statistics blocks

Brand name, Other brands

Comparison sections

Badge

Badge text

If a section has nothing editable you will see No editable settings found for this section.

Text formatting. Longer fields support Bold, Italic, Bulleted list and Numbered list.

Fonts. Where a font can be set, the options are Default, Arial, Georgia, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Courier New, Verdana and Trebuchet MS.

Images. You can swap any image straight from the preview, covered in Changing an image below. The settings panel also keeps a URL field, Enter image URL, and the format for a file already in your Shopify files is shopify://shop_images/image.png.

⚠️ Review the testimonials and statistics before publishing. Atlas generates plausible-sounding social proof, and publishing invented reviews or statistics as though they were real is your legal responsibility, not Atlas's. Replace them with your own or hide the section.

Changing an image

Move your pointer over any image in the preview and a small pencil button appears in its top-right corner, labelled Change image. Moving focus to it with the keyboard reveals it too. Icons and avatars do not get one, because the button would cover them.

Selecting it opens Change image, which lists the images already in your Shopify files:

Control

Search files

Filters the list by filename

Use {name}

Puts that image in the page. The one already there shows {name} (in use)

Upload image

Adds a new image to your Shopify files and uses it

Fetches the next batch of files

Cancel and Close

Leave the image as it was

You can also drag an image onto the dialog, which shows Drop an image to upload it.

ℹ️ Uploads go into your Shopify files, the same library the rest of your store uses. An image you add here is available everywhere in Shopify afterwards.

If your library is empty you will see No images in your Shopify files yet. Upload one to get started. and a search with no results shows No files match your search.

Three messages mean something went wrong:

Message

What to do

Couldn't load your Shopify files.

Close the dialog and open it again

Couldn't upload the image. Try again.

Retry the upload

Use a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF image.

Convert the file to one of those formats first

Blocks

Some sections are built from repeatable Blocks, such as a list of features or a set of cards.

Control

What it does

Adds another block to the section

Move up and Move down

Reorders blocks

Remove block

Deletes a block

A section with no blocks shows No blocks added, and a block with nothing to configure shows No settings available for this block.

Theme colours

The Theme colors panel applies a palette across the whole page: "Select a cohesive color palette for your store. This will be applied globally."

Available palettes include Default, Original, Beauty, Playful, Lifestyle, Secure, Health, Calming, Pet, Kids, Home, Street, Luxury, Luxurious, Food, Forest, Ocean, Sand and Crimson.

Original returns the page to the colours it was generated with.

ℹ️ The palette you set here applies to this page only. There is no project-wide default palette, so set the colours on each page as you build it.

Previewing on desktop and mobile

Switch between Desktop preview and Mobile preview in the top bar.

Check the mobile view before publishing. Most storefront traffic is mobile, and long headlines and benefit lists behave differently on a narrow screen than they do on a desktop.

Saving as a draft

Save as draft stores your work without putting anything on your store. Atlas confirms with Saved as draft. Find it in your pages. If it fails you will see Couldn't save your draft. Please try again.

A save can also come back with Page saved, but the product title couldn't be updated in Shopify. Your page is saved in that case. Only the product's title in Shopify kept its old value, so change it in Shopify if it matters to you.

A draft does not appear on your storefront and does not count towards your published pages allowance.

Publishing

Publish pages opens the publish panel, where you choose a theme and confirm. This is covered in full in How to publish a page to your theme, including exactly what publishing replaces.

If you see Enable Atlas in your theme to publish, the required app embed is switched off for that theme. Select Activate app embed, press Save in the theme editor that opens, and Atlas re-checks automatically.

Leaving without saving

Closing the editor with unsaved changes asks Leave without saving? and warns You have unsaved changes. They'll be lost. Choose Keep editing to stay, or Leave to discard.

There is no autosave and no version history. If you have made edits worth keeping, save the draft before you navigate away.
