After you've placed your order, we recommend getting started in the App right away and jumping into the corresponding Practice Pack when your intro order arrives (in 7-14 business days).
Get the App
Download the Hooked on Phonics App to your mobile device or Chromebook laptop by visiting the app store on your device, searching for the App and then installing it. Or, by selecting the app store associated with your device software: HERE
Once the App is installed on your device, open it, select Home, then Yes, log me in
Login with your subscription email address and the password that you created at checkout (or that you received in your confirmation email)
If you did not add a learner at checkout, you'll be prompted to add one when you sign into your account for the first time
Your App account can be logged in on up to 3 devices at one time. Logging in on more than 3 devices may result in performance issues. We recommend logging out of one device before adding a new one.
Hooked on Phonics is compatible with most modern Android, iOS, and Amazon devices that are within 2–3 years of their release. If you're using an older device without necessary operating system updates, you may encounter problems accessing or using the app. In such cases, we recommend switching to a compatible device to ensure optimal performance.

How It Works
Our App + Practice Pack program follows a Learn/Practice/Read/Celebrate approach: Learn in the App, Practice with interactive activities in the App and workbooks, Read the physical storybooks (& eBooks), then Celebrate success with rewards, stickers, and certificates. In your workbooks, you'll see headers that match each of these phases in the top corner.
Learn
Once you've logged into the App for the first time, your child will meet our Lesson Path. Select the first activity to get started! You can get started in the App right away before your Practice Pack arrives.
To determine the appropriate starting level for your child, consider their familiarity with letter names and sounds. Beginners who are just starting to learn these basics should begin with the Pre-K level. If your child already knows all letters and their sounds, the Kindergarten level is a better starting point as it builds on foundational skills and introduces more advanced concepts.
Practice
Once your Practice Pack arrives, open the workbook and read through the tips for success on the back of the cover page, followed by the Lesson Overview on page 3. Then, you and your child are ready to move onto the first lesson's activities on pages 4 and 5. Throughout the workbook, you can view what lessons the activities cover at the top of the page.
Read
As your child works through the Practice Pack, they'll come across the Read page. This is where your child will utilize the physical storybooks included with each Pack. For Pre-Readers, it is recommended that a grown-up read the physical books to the child to start.
Celebrate
Each Practice Pack includes star stickers, which can be used to celebrate your child's progress throughout the program! You'll find spots at the top of the workbook pages for your child to place their achievement stickers.
Tips
We recommend starting in the App and completing each lesson there (one learning objective, such as the letter 'a' or words ending in '-at') before completing the corresponding lesson/learning objective in the workbook.
Sit with your child for a session ranging between 10-15 minutes at first to gauge how much content they're able to work through in one sitting, as you'll want to fit your session length to your child's attention span. It's okay to work with the App one day and the corresponding lesson in your workbook the next. Take your time and review the content as many times as needed, or follow the suggested tips in the workbook for incorporating off-the-page activities for additional practice.
A new Practice Pack is shipped every 30 days by default. However, if your child needs more time to work on their pack, of if you'd like to receive them sooner, you can adjust the shipment date or frequency by logging into the Dashboard.
