When a BIM is updated, you can import the new version from Forma (ACC) or via Local Import. After import, you can control how existing search set BIM links are handled.
Updating BIM Models
When importing an updated model, you will see the following options:
Replace and Refresh Links
Replace Existing
Place New
What each option does
Replace and Refresh Links
Re-runs all search sets
Retrieves new element IDs from the updated model
Updates task links to match the refreshed results
Replace Existing
Replaces the model but keeps the existing element IDs
Maintains current behavior (no search set re-run)
Place New
Adds the model as a new instance
The first model that matches the naming criteria will inherit the existing element IDs
Refreshing BIM Links Manually
You can manually refresh search set links for specific BIM models directly from the BIM Hierarchy.
Steps
Select one or more BIM models
Open Selection Inspector
Navigate to Actions
Click Refresh BIM Selection Links
This action:
Re-runs search sets
Re-links updated elements to the correct tasks
Handling Missing Properties
If the updated BIM is missing properties required by search sets:
Some search sets may return no matching elements
A notification will appear when the refresh is complete
The notification indicates that some search sets are empty and provides guidance for further investigation.
Identifying Empty Search Sets
To find search sets that did not return results:
Export the search sets to TSV
Open the file and look for rows where:
EntityIdCount = 0
These entries indicate search sets that:
No longer match elements in the updated model
Likely require adjustment (e.g. missing or changed properties)
Summary
Use Replace and Refresh Links to fully update models and re-run search sets
Use manual refresh via Selection Inspector for targeted updates
Check the TSV export to diagnose empty search sets after updates
