What is a Device

Learn about the different types of telemetry devices, sensors, and BLE tags used across the SensGrid and Tobe Twin platform to track equipment, vehicles, plant, tools, and workforce personnel.

Overview

In the Tobe Twin platform, a Device refers to any hardware unit deployed on site to capture location, operational metrics, environmental telemetry, or movement data.

Devices range from hardwired 12V vehicle trackers and OBD-II plug-and-play dongles to long-life battery sensors and wearable Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tags.


Device Categories

SensGrid supports four primary hardware categories:

  1. Wired Devices (e.g., Arrow / Dart3 BLE)

    • Permanently wired into vehicle or machine 12V/24V power systems.

    • Captures high-frequency GPS tracking, true ignition-based run hours, harsh driving events, and acts as a mobile BLE gateway.

  2. OBD-II Devices (e.g., Bolt / Bolt2)

    • Plug-and-play trackers inserted directly into light vehicle OBD-II diagnostic ports.

    • Captures GPS location, virtual run hours, vibration run state, and accelerometer events without requiring custom wiring.

  3. Battery-Powered Devices (e.g., Barra Fusion, Manta Fusion, Remora, Hawk)

    • Autonomous, ruggedized trackers powered by long-life lithium batteries.

    • Deployed on non-powered assets like site sheds, gang boxes, toilets, trailers, and remote monitoring points.

  4. BLE Tags (e.g., Minew Helmet Tags, Eddystone Driver Tags)

    • Compact, low-cost Bluetooth beacons attached to tools, equipment, or workforce PPE (safety helmets, wristbands, ID cards).

    • Relays spatial location automatically whenever brought within range (up to 50 meters) of a BLE gateway device.
