Battery Device - Hawk Data Logger

Learn about the Hawk Data Logger (Digital Matter Hawk Pro), an industrial IoT data logger and BLE gateway designed for remote environmental sensing, structural monitoring, and site utility logging.

Written by Ken Panitz

Overview

The Hawk Data Logger (Digital Matter Hawk Pro) is a modular, weather-proof sensor hub and data logger engineered for civil construction and geotechnical telemetry.

Featuring interchangeable I/O cards, the Hawk connects to external sensors (e.g., piezometers, inclinometers, dust/noise monitors, energy meters) while functioning as a long-range Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) gateway across site workfronts.

Target Applications

The Hawk Data Logger is deployed for:

  • Environmental & Geotechnical Monitoring: Logging groundwater pressure, tiltmeter angles, and structural settlement.

  • Site Utility & Energy Logging: Monitoring 3-phase power meters, water flow meters, and fuel tank levels.

  • Consumables & Material Tracking: Tracking high-value spools, cable reels, and steel beams via BLE gateway scanning.

  • Remote BLE Gateway: Receiving telemetry from nearby BLE tags within 50m radius.

Telemetry & Implied Analytics

RAW Data Captured:

  • Sensor Measurements: Digital and analog readings from connected instruments (e.g., pressure $kPa$, voltage, pulse counts).

  • BLE Gateway Telemetry: Scanned MAC addresses, RSSI signal strength, and Eddystone IDs from nearby BLE tags.

  • Location & Diagnostic Data: GPS location coordinates, battery voltage, solar charging status.

Implied Platform Analytics:

  • Sensor Trend Analysis: Real-time threshold tracking, trend graphs, and alert notifications in 4D Viewer.

  • BLE Tag Location Estimation: Implied spatial position (within 50 meters of the Hawk gateway) for tracked materials and tools.

  • Location History: Movement trail of tracked items based on gateway coordinates over time.

Summary & Next Steps

  • Key Takeaway: The Hawk Data Logger bridges specialized site sensors and BLE tags directly into the Tobe Twin platform for real-time geotechnical, utility, and material tracking.

  • Next Steps: See BLE Device - Minew Helmet Tags for wearable tags scanned by the Hawk gateway.
