What are Dashboards & Insights?

Dashboards and Insights live inside Reports. They are designed to help you save the report views you care about, come back to them later, and share the same view with your team without rebuilding it each time.

Written by Sarah May

At a high level, Insights are single saved reports (one view). Dashboards are a saved page made up of multiple Insights (and optional text blocks) laid out together.

Who can use this?

Dashboards, saved Insights, Spaces, and the Reports Activity view are part of Premium reports. If you are on Free, you can still access Legacy reports for now.

What is an Insight?

An Insight is one saved report view. When you open an Insight, you can see and edit:

  • A name (defaults to “Untitled Report” if you do not name it yet)

  • A description

  • The report view itself, such as a single metric, chart, table, or map (depending on how the Insight was built)

  • Options like Refresh report data to pull the latest results

Insights also have an actions menu where you can control how they behave over time:

  • Autosave Changes (on or off)

  • Protect Insight (locks it from editing)

  • Move to Space (organise it into a Space)

  • Duplicate Insight

  • Delete Insight (disabled if the Insight is protected)

What is a Dashboard?

A Dashboard is a page where you can combine multiple Insights into one place. Dashboards can include:

  • Multiple Insight cards (for example, a mix of charts, tables, and metrics)

  • A Text card, so you can add headings, notes, and context directly on the dashboard

  • A Dashboard title and description

  • Tools to copy the dashboard URL and open full screen view

Dashboards also include controls for how they stay up to date and how they are managed:

  • Autosave Changes

  • Protect Dashboard (locks editing and prevents adding new Insight cards)

  • Auto layout (helps keep the layout tidy)

  • Auto-refresh interval (optional)

  • Export Data

  • Duplicate Dashboard

  • Delete Dashboard

  • Set as Home Page (so this dashboard becomes your default landing view)

  • Pin to sidebar (so it stays easy to access)

How are they organised in Reports?

Inside Reports, you will see:

  • Activity: a view of recently created and recently edited dashboards and insights, plus a search box that can “Search dashboards and insights”.

  • Legacy: the legacy report area.

  • Spaces: folders used to organise Dashboards and Insights. Spaces can have Subfolders, and you can set a folder colour.

  • Loose Dashboards and Loose Insights: items that are not currently stored in a Space.

You can organise your work by dragging Dashboards and Insights between Spaces, Subfolders, and the loose sections. Sections like Dashboards and Insights can be collapsed and expanded, so if something “disappears”, it may simply be collapsed.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot edit an Insight or Dashboard, check if Protect Insight or Protect Dashboard is turned on.

If you cannot find a Dashboard or Insight, check:

  • Whether you are in the right area (Activity vs Legacy)

  • Whether Spaces, Dashboards, or Insights sections are collapsed

  • Whether it is stored inside a Space or sitting in a loose section
