How to build a Finance Insight

Follow these steps to create a finance-focused Insight using finance data sources, fields, and breakdowns in Reports.

Step 1: Open Reports

From the main left-hand menu, click Reports.

This opens the reporting area where Dashboards, Insights, report folders, and saved report views are managed.

Step 2: Create an Insight

Create a new Insight from one of these places:

  • Click New Insight in the Reports header

  • Open the Create options menu (+) in the Reports sidebar, then select New Insight

Note: To learn more about creating Insights, see the Creating an Insight article.

Step 3: Build your Finance Insight

Most setup happens in the right-hand panel, with a live preview on the left.

Start by selecting Data Source, then choose what you want to report on.

Step 4: Open the Finance source

After selecting Data Source in the right sidebar, open the Finance source.

You may see finance-related folders, subfolders, and data sources, depending on how your workspace is set up.

Step 5: Select a finance data source

Choose a finance-related data source from one of the available folders.

For example, select Billable Entries or another finance data source.

You can then choose from expanded finance fields and breakdowns.

What happens next

After selecting a finance data source, the Insight builder displays the report preview on the left and setup options on the right.

From the right-hand panel, you can continue building the Insight by:

  • selecting fields

  • adding filters

  • choosing metrics

  • grouping data

  • selecting a visualization type, such as a chart or table

As you make changes, the preview updates so you can review the report before saving it.
