Google's Postmaster Tools is a free suite of tools that can be used to track domain reputation for sending domains of all sizes, and integrates within the Inbox Monster platform for additional reporting capabilities.
Setup is easy, and all that's needed to get started is a Google Account. If you don't have one, they can be created easily using this link.
Once you have access to your own secure Google Account, the following steps can be used to implement Google Postmaster Tools to monitor the domain reputation for your email program:
Navigate to the Google Postmaster Tools dashboard.
Click on the Add icon in the bottom right (+) to access the domain entry form.
From here, you'll be able to add the first sending domain, and when clicking Next you'll be given authentication options to verify your ownership of the domain.
💡 Root Domains can be added and verified first, and that verification will trickle down to related subdomains.
For example, example.com authenticates mail with 2 other subdomains, a.example.com and b.example.com. To view the data for traffic authenticated by "a.example.com," "b.example.com," and "example.com," add the main domain.
Once you add and verify ownership of a domain name, you can add sub-domains of that domain and view data without having to verify each of them. To view separate data for only your sub-domains, independently add your sub-domains.
This is the fun part! Google wants you to prove that you own the Domain for which you're making the request. This can be done one of two ways:
The TXT record generated can be added added directly to your domain's DNS as exactly that, a text record. If you would need to forward this type of request to your DNS manager or IT department, feel free to use the following template by filling in the bracketed sections with applicable data:
We’d like to implement Google Postmaster Tools to monitor our domain’s deliverability reputation. The only thing required is the addition of the following TXT verification records to the DNS for [domain name]: [Insert TXT Record(s)]. Additional information can be found here: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/9981691?hl=en.
The CNAME record can be used to serve the same verification purpose, but it's a little bit more complicated. This process would require passing along both CNAME Label/Host and CNAME Destination/Target to your DNS manager or IT department.
Once one of the two above adjustments is confirmed for your DNS, you can navigate back to the Domain Verification view for your domain and click "Verify" to complete the process.
And that's it! You're officially using Google Postmaster Tools to monitor your domain's reputation. The official Google Postmaster Tools FAQ can be found here.
The final step is to integrate your Google Postmaster account with Inbox Monster's platform to access advanced reporting functionality, complementary data views, a customized notification suite for reputation changes, and more.
