How to build a native in-feed ad

In-feed ads blend seamlessly with the surrounding content, resembling items like blog post teasers or product descriptions.

Requirements

To get started, ensure you have the following:

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Log into Indie Ads Manager and navigate to the relevant Advertiser record (or create a new Advertiser)

  2. Click Add Campaign and select Standard Campaign

  3. Enter a name for your Campaign and adjust the targeting & scheduling levels

  4. Click Create Campaign

  5. In your newly created campaign, click Add Ad Item

  6. From the Add Ad Item window, select Native (Custom Rendering/API)

  7. Give the ad a name (required)

  8. Set the ad item's size to Dynamic then complete the remaining fields as needed

  9. Select the Display: Native In Feed Ad template from the drop-down

  10. Fill in the ad variables. These variables repeat for each logo:

    1. ImageURL: include a jpeg or png image file, a company logo or a simple graphic is ideal

    2. Header: the sponsor name will be added as the logo image alt text, it will not display on the ad itself (optional)

    3. Description: add a detailed description/ad copy

    4. Call to Action: the specific action you want users to take, i.e. "Click here to learn more" or "Don't miss out - get your tickets today!"

    5. Sponsored Link: include a destination URL for users who click on a logo (optional)

  11. Click Save Ad Item

You are now ready to assign your ad to the relevant zone.

Add to Your Website

Here are some best practices for using the in-feed ad template:

  • This ad can be assigned to an existing dynamic zone, or you can request a new zone specifically for the in-feed ad

  • Ideally, only assign additional in-feed ads to this zone

  • Place the zone on your website wherever you would like it to appear. Some recommended places include:

    • Your homepage

    • Within post content (inline)

    • On category archive pages

Read Only Code

When building your ad using a native ad template, you will see a window with the template code. This code is read-only; you cannot edit (or break) the template from the Ad Item build window.

Limitations & Troubleshooting

  • Ad Rotation Not Working: currently, the ad rotation function does not work with dynamic sized native ads. Under the zone properties, ensure Enable Ad Refreshing is toggled off.

  • Text Is Cutting Off: you may need to limit the amount of text you are including. While this ad template is built to be dynamic, you may still run into issues if you include too much text.

  • Preview Not Working: currently you cannot preview dynamic native ads within Indie Ads Manager. To preview how your ad will display, you will need to serve it to a page on your website.
