What is a campaign?

Written by Benjamin Havenaar

A campaign is a one-off message you send to a group of contacts through Campaigns in the left sidebar. Use it to announce a new event, promote a reward, or send a reminder to your audience. Innercrowd supports two types of campaigns:

Email campaigns

Send a designed email to a list of contacts. You build the email with a drag-and-drop editor, choose who receives it, and schedule it for now or later.

WhatsApp campaigns

Send a WhatsApp Business message to a list of contacts. Because WhatsApp requires pre-approved message templates for business-initiated conversations, every WhatsApp campaign starts from a template instead of a free-form design.

Meta is very strict on how organisations are able to use WhatsApp marketing. Not following their guidelines can lead to serious restrictions like degradation in your message limits or even a block on your WhatsApp account. To avoid restrictions, be sure to keep a high-quality ranking. For more information, check out this article about WhatsApp Quality Ranking.

Choosing between email and WhatsApp

Email

WhatsApp

Content

Free-form design (drag-and-drop editor)

Must use an approved WhatsApp template

Reach

Anyone with a valid email address and email consent

Anyone with a valid phone number and WhatsApp consent

Best for

Announcements, weekly updates, ticket pushes, etc.

Longer content, visuals, detailed announcements

One-time messages that people expect to receive (e.g. confirmation messages or pre-register campaigns).

Short, high-open-rate messages

Note: Both campaign types respect the consent settings on your contacts. A contact should only receive a campaign if they've given consent for that channel.
