Direct Messages for Sellers

What you'll learn

This guide explains how direct messages (DMs) work for sellers on Jamble. You'll learn how to access your messages, communicate with buyers about orders, send photos, and manage your inbox. DMs are your main channel for communicating with buyers outside of live shows.

Before you start

You need:

  • An approved seller account on Jamble

Where to find your messages

All your conversations are in the Activity tab — one of the main tabs at the bottom of your screen.

At the top, you'll see filter tabs to organize your conversations:

  • All — Every conversation you have

  • Unread — Only conversations with new messages you haven't read

  • Purchases — Conversations about items you bought from other sellers

  • Sales — Conversations about items you sold — this is your main tab as a seller

  • Archived — Conversations you've archived As a seller, the Sales tab is where you'll spend most of your time. It shows all conversations related to your sales — buyer questions, order confirmations, and shipping discussions.

Types of conversations

Not all conversations look the same. There are three types:

Direct messages

When someone taps "Message" on your profile, it creates a simple one-on-one conversation — just you and the other person chatting. There's no product or order attached.

Product conversations

When a buyer makes an offer on one of your products, a conversation is automatically created with the product details at the top. You can discuss the product, negotiate, and manage offers within this conversation.

Transaction conversations

When a sale is completed, a conversation is created (or updated) with the transaction details — product info, order status, and shipping address. This is where you coordinate shipping and handle any post-sale questions.

The conversation includes action buttons for confirming orders, reviewing details, and managing the transaction.

How to start a conversation

Message someone first

You can message any user on Jamble:

  1. Go to their profile

  2. Tap the "Message" button (next to the "Follow" button)

  3. Type your message and send

If you've already chatted with this person, it opens your existing conversation. If not, a new conversation is created when you send your first message.

Automatic conversations

You don't always need to start a conversation yourself. Jamble automatically creates conversations when:

  • A buyer makes an offer on your product

  • A buyer completes a purchase from you

  • Someone contacts you through your profile

What you can send

Text messages

Type a message up to 500 characters and tap the send button. Messages are delivered in real time.

Photos

Tap the camera icon next to the text field to send photos:

  • On iOS: Select up to 6 photos from your gallery

  • On Android: Select up to 10 photos from your gallery, or take a photo directly with your camera

Photos are useful for showing product details, packaging, shipping labels, or answering buyer questions about condition.

What you can't send

DMs are for text and photos only. You cannot send voice messages, videos, files, or links with previews.

Managing your inbox

Unread indicators

When you have unread messages:

  • A badge appears on the Activity tab showing the number of unread conversations

  • Unread conversations appear with a colored dot next to them

  • Unread conversations have a slightly different background to stand out

Archiving conversations

To archive a conversation you don't need right now:

  1. Long press on the conversation in your list

  2. Select "Archive"

The conversation moves to the Archived tab. To bring it back, go to the Archived tab, long press the conversation, and select "Unarchive".

Deleting a message

If you sent a message by mistake:

  1. Long press on the message you want to delete

  2. Select "Delete"

The other person will see "Message unsent" instead of your original message. You can only delete your own messages.

Notifications

You receive a push notification for every new message in a private conversation. The notification shows:

  • The sender's name

  • The message preview (or "Just sent you a photo" for image messages)

  • The product image if the conversation is about a specific product

Tap the notification to go directly to that conversation.

If you're not receiving notifications, make sure notifications are enabled for Jamble in your phone's settings.

Important tips

  • Respond quickly to buyer questions. Fast responses build trust and can make the difference between a sale and a lost buyer. Check your Activity tab regularly

  • Use the Sales tab. It filters to show only conversations about your sales, so you can focus on what matters

  • Send photos to answer questions. If a buyer asks about product condition, a quick photo is worth a thousand words

  • Don't share personal information. Keep conversations within Jamble. Don't share personal phone numbers, email addresses, or social media accounts in DMs

  • Check your Archived tab occasionally. You might have archived a conversation that later needs follow-up (shipping issue, return request)

  • Blocked users can't message you. If someone is being inappropriate, you can block them from their profile — they won't be able to send you messages anymore

Common questions

Can buyers message me before buying anything? Yes. Anyone can tap "Message" on your profile to start a conversation, even if they've never purchased from you.

Do I get a conversation for every sale automatically? Yes. Every completed transaction automatically creates a conversation between you and the buyer, with the product and order details attached.

Can I message all my past buyers at once? No. Jamble doesn't have a broadcast or bulk messaging feature. You can only message buyers one by one through their individual conversations.

Is there a limit to how many messages I can send? There's a rate limit to prevent spam — you can send a few messages per conversation every few seconds. Normal conversation speed is never affected. If you're sending messages too fast, slow down briefly and try again.

Can I see if the buyer read my message? Yes. You can see when your last message has been read by the other person.

What's the difference between the show chat and DMs? The show chat is public — everyone in your live show sees the messages. DMs are private — only you and the other person can see the conversation. Use DMs for personal communication with specific buyers.

Are DMs available on both iOS and Android? Yes. The messaging feature works on both platforms with the same functionality.
