Custom metrics allow organisations to tailor their reporting to specific sustainability needs, beyond standard metrics. Follow these steps to set up custom metrics in the KEY ESG platform as described in the video linked above.

Watch this video to learn how to create custom metrics, add them to your data request and assign data gatherers your newly created custom metric.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Access the Custom Metrics Section:

    • Log in to your KEY ESG account.

    • Navigate to the "Metrics" tab in the main dashboard.

    • Select "Custom Metrics" from the dropdown menu.

  2. Create a New Metric:

    • Click on the “+ Add Metric” button.

    • A form will appear where you can begin defining your custom metric.

  3. Define Your Metric:

    • Name your metric: Choose a clear and descriptive name for your metric.

    • Metric Type: Select the type of data this metric will collect (e.g., integer, percentage, currency).

    • Units of Measurement: Choose the most appropriate unit for this metric (e.g., kilograms, tonnes, or kWh).

  4. Set Data Collection Period:

    • Choose the frequency of data collection for your custom metric (e.g., monthly, quarterly, annually).

  5. Assign Data Points:

    • You can assign custom metrics to existing data points by selecting the relevant activities or processes in your organisation that contribute to this metric.

  6. Add Calculation Logic (Optional):

    • If your custom metric requires specific calculations, enter the logic. For example, you might want to calculate a ratio, sum, or average based on other metrics you’re tracking.

    • Make sure to clearly define the sources of data used in these calculations.

  7. Save and Activate:

    • Once you’re satisfied with the custom metric details, click “Save.”

    • You can now activate this metric to start collecting data in future reporting cycles.

Assigning the New Custom Metric in Your Active Data Request:

  1. Navigate to the "Data Requests" section of the platform.

  2. Click on the three dots next to the relevant data request.

  3. Select "Edit Framework."

  4. Scroll down in the Metric Library to find the newly created custom metric.

  5. Select the custom metric and click "Save."

This update will now apply to all your portfolio companies, and they will see it in their data collection area.

Assigning the Custom Metric to a Data Gatherer:

  1. Navigate to "Users" on the platform.

  2. Click on the three dots to the right of the data gatherer you wish to assign the custom metric to.

  3. Select "Edit User."

  4. Scroll down to the "Data Points" section.

  5. Select the newly created custom metric.

  6. Click "Save."

This action will send a notification to the data gatherer that their data request has changed.

Next Steps:

After setting up and assigning your custom metric, it will be available for data input, and you can include it in your ESG reports alongside standard metrics. For further assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team via in-platform chat or email at support@keyesg.com.
