How report generation works

Create a template once, then let Klara draft long-form reports in your style.

Klara writes long-form reports for you: ADHD and neuropsychological assessments, longer treatment plans, progress and discharge summaries, letters, internal reports, and almost any other document you write again and again. A report can be anything from 1 page to 60 pages long.

It works in two steps:

  1. Create a template once. Give Klara one or more examples of the report you want. Klara learns its structure, its sections and the way you write.

  2. Generate reports from it. Choose a client and the template, add the documents Klara should read, and Klara drafts the full report in your style.

Long reports take longer than a session note. Most reports are ready in a few minutes, and a large report can take up to 20 minutes. Klara keeps working if you leave the page.

Step 1: Create your template

A template tells Klara what your report looks like and how you write it. You can start from:

  • A report you already wrote. Upload a completed report as a PDF or Word document. Klara finds each section and writes the instructions it will follow for that section in every new report.

  • A template that already has instructions. If your template has prompts in each section, such as [PROMPT KLARIFY: summarize the WISC-V results], Klara keeps your prompts and follows them.

  • Several reports at once. Upload up to 20 reports of the same type. Klara compares them to learn your language, your style and your preferences: the words you choose, how you report scores, how you phrase conclusions and recommendations.

Klara captures your writing style automatically. You don't need to describe it.

Read Creating a report template for the full steps.

Step 2: Generate a report

  1. Open Reports and choose Create Report.

  2. Choose a client.

  3. Choose a template. Under Report settings, you can change the writing voice, the language, the assessment date and the depth (Short, Standard or Exhaustive). By default, the report has about the same length as your template.

  4. Choose Create report. The report opens in the editor, and Klara asks what to write.

  5. In Write your report, choose:

    • What to write: the whole report, or only some sections.

    • What to read: the files and sessions Klara should use.

    • Instructions: your conclusions, impressions and anything Klara should emphasize.

  6. Choose Run. Klara reads your sources, writes each section, and creates your graphs and tables.

If you use a template that a colleague shared, or choose Use a file once to upload a file only for this report, the steps are slightly different. Klara asks for the sources, your conclusions and a report name before it starts.

What Klara can read

  • PDF and Word documents, such as test results, intake forms and previous reports

  • Spreadsheets (Excel and CSV), text files and images

  • Your Klarify sessions (transcription must be on)

A single report can read up to 600 PDF pages and 60 sessions. For a long PDF, you can choose only the pages you need. Klara reads very large sources in several passes, which takes a little longer.

Give Klara everything the report needs. If your template has a graph of test scores, include the document that contains those scores. Klara never guesses a missing value. It marks the section so you can add the information.

While Klara writes

You can follow the progress in Reports and in the editor: reading your documents, writing sections, creating charts, then putting the report together. You can keep working on something else while it runs.

Step 3: Review, edit and export

Klara writes the draft. You stay in charge of what goes out.

  • Edit directly in the editor, or choose Edit with Klara to ask Klara to rewrite a passage, change the tone or add detail.

  • Mark a section Complete when you are happy with it. Klara locks that section and won't change it in later runs.

  • Run Klara again on only some sections, for example after you add a missing document. Each report can have up to 3 runs. After that, you can still edit with Klara.

  • Preview shows the report exactly as it will export.

  • Export downloads the report as PDF or Word (or plain text).

Before you send a report, check:

  • The client's name, dates and other identifying details

  • The scores, graphs and tables against your source documents

  • Any section that Klara marked as missing information

  • Your conclusions and recommendations
