A template is the first step of report generation. You show Klara the report you want, once. Klara learns its structure and your writing style, then uses the template every time you generate that type of report.
You don't need to write instructions for Klara or describe your style. Upload your own reports and Klara does the work.
What you can upload
You can start from either type of file:
A completed report. Use a real report you already wrote, as a PDF or Word document. You don't need a blank or de-identified copy. Klara finds each section and writes the instructions it will follow for that section in every new report.
A template with prompts. If your template already has instructions in its sections, Klara keeps them and follows them. Put each instruction in square brackets and start it with a word like
PROMPT,PROMPT KLARIFY,INSTRUCTIONorCONSIGNE. For example:[PROMPT KLARIFY: Summarize the WISC-V results and compare them with the norms.]Short brackets such as[Client full name]stay as fill-in fields.
Files must be PDF or Word (DOCX), up to 20 MB each. A document with clear section headings gives the best results.
Give Klara more examples to learn your style
You can upload up to 20 reports of the same type, for example 20 ADHD assessments you wrote. The more examples you give, the better Klara learns how you write.
Klara analyzes all of your examples to learn your voice:
The vocabulary and phrases you use
How you refer to the client and other people
How you report scores and describe results
How you write numbers and dates
How you phrase conclusions and recommendations
Your new reports then use your language, your style and your preferences. Klara learns your voice in English or in French.
When you upload several reports, you choose one main report. Its sections and layout become the template. Klara compares the other reports with it, section by section. If a section appears in only some of your reports, Klara marks it Optional.
Use reports of the same type. If you write different types of reports, create one template for each.
Create your template
Open Reports and choose Create Template.
Choose Start from a report you wrote or Start from several reports.
Drop your PDF or Word files. If you add several, choose the main report.
Give the template a name. Turn on Share with clinic if colleagues should use it too.
Choose Import & analyze. Klara reads your reports, compares the sections and builds the outline.
The template then opens in Template Studio.
Review your template in Template Studio
Template Studio shows your report section by section. For each section, you can see and change who writes it:
Klara writes: Klara writes this section fresh for each client, from that report's documents. Open the section to read and edit Klara's plan for it.
Fixed text: The text is copied word for word into every report, for example a confidentiality notice or the description of a test.
I write this myself: Klara leaves the section to you. The report opens with the template's text as a starting point.
Optional: Klara writes the section only when the documents support it.
Use Insert to add a heading, fixed text, a callout box, a section for Klara, a graph, a table, an image or a page break. Graphs and tables come from your library. See Defining graphs and tables.
After the import, Klara removes identifying details from the example text in the background. Wait for this to finish before you publish. Automatic removal can miss a detail, so review the template before you publish or share it. Klara uses your example text to learn your voice. It does not copy that text into new reports. Fixed text is the exception: it is copied into every report, so check it carefully.
Publish and generate your first report
Choose Save to library and create a report. Klara saves the template and opens a new report with it right away. To save without creating a report, open More ways to publish and choose Save to library.
When you first publish, Klara learns your writing voice from your examples. Choose Review the voice to see the rules Klara will follow. You can find them later on the Templates page, under Your voice.
You can edit the template later. Choose Publish changes when your new version is ready. Reports always use the last published version.
Share with your clinic
Turn on Shared with clinic on the template card to let colleagues generate reports with it. Only you can edit it.
Colleagues use the template's sections, instructions, fixed text and voice. They don't get your original file or the text of the reports you uploaded. The graphs, tables and images the template uses are also shared, and they stay shared if you turn off sharing later.
