Currently, Reflections are only available for the following Kognity subjects - IB DP Biology, Chemistry, and Physics FE2025, IB DP Business Management FE2024, and IB DP Environmental Systems and Societies FE2026.

What are Reflections?

Reflections provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their learning. They encourage students to return to the subtopic's guiding questions, consider what they've learned, and write down their thoughts.

Reflections are an excellent assessment tool for gauging students' development and engagement with the material. As a teacher, you can use the Reflections submitted by your students as an additional tool to assess their conceptual understanding of the course.

Where can I find Reflections?

Reflection prompts are placed at the end of each lesson to support closing the learning loop. Your students' responses will be visible in the Tasks list for any book assignment that includes a Reflection. Click on the completion status chip on the right of the Reflection task, then "View student answers".

You can also find students’ reflections under the Insights tab.

How can I use Reflections?

We recommend that as students finish a lesson, you assign the Reflection section to them in a book assignment (learn how to create a book assignment here). You can then review the reflections submitted by your students via the assignment details page of the book assignment or in the Insights tab. You may choose to provide feedback to individual students, which can be done right on the platform. You can also flag individual submissions if you want to follow up with a student in person.

If you want to control when students get access to the Reflection section, you can always hide the section (click here to learn how to hide or show content) from them until the time is right. When assigning the section as a book assignment, the section will automatically be shown to students.
