Reinstalling your VPS is a practical option when the operating system becomes unstable misconfigured or cluttered over time.
LumaDock lets you reinstall your server directly from the client area without waiting for manual intervention.
WARNING: Before continuing, remember that reinstallation permanently deletes all data stored on the VPS. Once the process starts there is no way to recover existing files unless you already have backups.
Accessing the reinstallation option
Log in to your LumaDock client area using your account email and password.
Go to Your active products and services, select the VPS you want to reinstall and click Manage.
This opens the server control panel where all service actions are available.
From the left side menu choose Reinstallation. This section controls how the operating system is deployed on your VPS.
Reinstalling using KVM templates
KVM templates are ready to use operating system images maintained by LumaDock. They are designed to deploy quickly and include standard configurations that work well for most setups.
This method is ideal if you want a clean system without extra steps. The installation completes fast and once finished you receive new login credentials for the fresh OS.
KVM templates are recommended for common Linux distributions and general purpose servers, where speed and simplicity matter more than custom installation options.
Reinstalling using ISO images
ISO images give you full control over the installation process. This option allows you to run a manual installer for custom operating systems special versions or advanced partition layouts.
When using an ISO image, you must complete the installation through the noVNC console. The process takes longer and requires user interaction, but gives maximum flexibility.
ISO based installations are best suited for advanced users who know exactly how they want the system configured from the start.
Reinstallation time and availability
The reinstallation process usually takes a few minutes depending on the selected method. During this time the VPS will be offline and unreachable.
Once finished the server boots automatically with the new operating system and is ready for access via SSH or the noVNC console.
Backup and security considerations
Reinstallation deletes all data on the VPS disks. Always create backups before starting. If your plan includes backup slots confirm that the latest snapshot has completed successfully.
If backups are not enabled, download important files to local storage or an external location first.
This short pause can save you some serious recovery work later.
From a security perspective, reinstalling can be a smart reset. It removes unknown changes clears leftover services and resets permissions. A fresh system is easier to secure update and trust.
A clean slate keeps things predictable and easier to manage.
