Server checks allow you to monitor your VPS automatically and get notified when a service becomes unavailable.
This guide explains every option in the Create Server Check window so you can configure monitoring that fits your setup and alerting needs.
If you already use backups or resource notifications, server checks complete the picture by watching service availability in real time.
What is a server check
A server check is a recurring verification task that tests a specific condition on your server. When that condition fails repeatedly, LumaDock sends a notification so you can act quickly.
Checks are commonly used to monitor network reachability, open ports, or basic service health.
Creating a new server check
Log in to your LumaDock client area and open My servers. Select the VPS you want to monitor and click Manage.
Open your server management page and navigate to the Server Monitoring section.
Click Create check to open the configuration window.
Name
Choose a clear and descriptive name for the check. This helps you identify alerts later, especially when you have multiple checks on the same server.
Examples include ICMP availability or HTTP port check.
Status
This toggle controls whether the check is active.
When enabled, LumaDock runs the check automatically based on the interval you define. When disabled, the configuration is saved but no monitoring is performed.
Verification interval (minutes)
This defines how often the check runs.
For example, a value of 1 means the server is checked every minute. Shorter intervals detect issues faster but may generate more alerts during unstable periods.
Failure count for notification
This setting determines how many consecutive failed checks must occur before a notification is triggered.
A value of 1 sends an alert after the first failure. Higher values help reduce alerts caused by short network hiccups or brief restarts.
Notification delay
Notification delay adds a waiting period after the failure count is reached.
For example, with a delay of 5 minutes, the system waits before sending the alert. This is useful if services tend to recover quickly on their own.
Type of performed check
This option defines what the system actually checks.
Depending on your server configuration, this can include network reachability or specific service checks such as open ports. Choose the check type that matches the service you want to monitor.
Notification type
Select how you want to be notified when a check fails.
Available options usually include email notifications and control panel alerts. Make sure your contact details are up to date so alerts reach you on time.
Saving the check
Once all fields are configured, click Confirm to save and activate the server check. If the status toggle is enabled, monitoring begins immediately.
To discard changes, click Cancel.
